CPFMarketPlace

• A "Group Buy" (GB) is a sale conducted by a member who is selling a product to a group of buyers. The participants are leveraging their buying power/numbers to obtain said items.
• A GB should offer some advantage to the group such as a special price or an item that's not normally available to an individual or merely a handful of individuals (a certain number of participants are typically required to get the item or applicable price breaks). It is NOT another opportunity for dealers to offer their wares. Supporting dealer's may offer any discount they wish in the Dealer's Corner.
• Typically a GB is offered for a limited amount of time or to a limited number of individuals and then closed.
• The GB coordinator posts their offer with description of the item, cost, time frame, number or participants, and other applicable information.
• Participants typically post their interest in the thread and/or contact the seller via other methods.
• A list of participants is maintained in a single post by the GB coordinator or other designated individual. This keeps the "post clutter" limited & cleaned up throughout the thread.
• Pre-pays on a GB are up to the coordinator and participants to work out. The administration and owner of CandlePowerForums and CPFMarketPlace will not prohibit pre-sales but also will not be responsible for or get involved in any issues that may result.
• Questions regarding these policies can be addressed in the Issues & Inquiries forum.

Any questions, please PM me or post here.

A picture of the EPDM Kits:
Sizes -013 to -020 on the bottom row.
Sizes -021 to -025 and -119 on the top row.
The assembled kit is pictured above the two rows.

3.22.09
I got the majority of the o-rings in on Thursday. One size is back-ordered until tomorrow. I also ordered a 14th size, the #119 which should fit the Surefire body heads for the C, P, U, K and M series.

3.16.09
The group buy is officially on! I ordered the EPDM o-rings today and they will hopefully arrive on Wed or Thurs.

There has also been some interest in a Silicone version of the kit. Please post here if you would be interested. Note that the price of the silicone o-rings is substantially greater so the Kit will be priced higher and/or contain less o-rings.

Each EPDM kit will include 5 of each size from #013 (ID=7/16") to #025 (ID= 1 and 3/16") for a total of 65 O-rings. The width of each is 1/16".

Each size would be individually bagged in a little ziploc style bag. ( I might regret committing to this part. ) the kits will be shipped first class in a bubble lined envelope.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.2.09

I have been looking around for some replacement O-rings and all the places either have a very large number at a low price, or they nickel and dime you to death. So I was thinking of setting up a group buy if there is enough interest.

Most O-rings are made of Buna-N but I think EPDM would make a better choice.

Here is a comparison between the two:

Buna-N: Nitrile Rubber
-20 to 212 F
-30 to 100 C
Good compressibility
Advantage- cheap, widely used
Disadvantage- poor resistance to sunlight, ozone and weathering

EPDM: Ethylene Propylene
-40 to 212 F
-40 to 100 C
Good compressibility
Advantage- water, steam, ozone and weather resistant
Disadvantage- Not recommended for use with use synthetic lubricants

Silicone:
-80 to 400 F
-62 to 204 C
Typically used in static seals, not recommended for dynamic seals.
Advantage- Increased temperature range. Resistant to sun damage, ozone, fungal and biological attack
Disadvantage- Poor tear and abrasion strength.

Aside from materials, the other choice is sizes.

I think the range from #013 (ID=7/16") to #025 (ID= 1 and 3/16") would encompass a large range of different flashlights.

Each kit would include 5 of each size from #013 to #025 for a total of 65 O-rings. Each size would be individually bagged in a little ziploc style bag. ( I might regret committing to this part. ) the kits will be shipped first class in a bubble lined envelope.

Depending on how large the group buy is and how much the 65 O-rings would weigh, the price would probably be around $6-$9 shipped for a kit. International shipping would add about $1-$3 depending entirely on the package weight.

Final pricing will depend on the number of sizes included in the kit, the size of the group buy and the O-ring material chosen.

The material and the included sizes are entirely up in the air, so comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Lastly, does anyone know of a listing of O-rings sizes used in the more common lights?

One final important note, please only commit if you are willing to wait as long as a few weeks to a month and are truly interested once a final price is set and all the details are worked out. You basically will have time to change your mind up until the point before I place the O-ring order. Until then, feel free to change your mind. No pre-pays will be required or expected, just your word.

Default Re: Feeler- O-ring Kits GB

I am trying to get a small database started which lists the o-ring sizes used in different flashlights.

Disclaimer: These are measurements I made on lights I own or from info I found online, so they may be incorrect and no guarantee is given as to their accuracy.

This listing is just for reference and these sizes are not necessarily included in the kits described above.

Production Lights using Imperial Standard O-Rings:
Sizes are given in standard AS568A Dash Number

Surefire 6P/9P/C2/C3/- body head: -119
Surefire 6P/9P/C2/C3- body tail: -017 or -018
These 2 sizes should be usable on a large number of surefire lights (P,U,M,K,C series)

Surefire G2- body head: -022
Surefire G2- body tail: -017

Surefire E1B- body head: -017 or -018
Surefire E1B- body tail: -015

Arc 6 head: -017 (silicone)
Arc 6 piston: -016 or -015 (silicone)
Arc 6 bezel/window: =019 (EPDM)

Mushondt Aeon body head: -013

Production Lights using Metric Standard O-rings:
Sizes are given as Inner diameter x Cross Sectional Width

Arc Ti AAA- Window Seal: 6 mm x 1 mm
Arc Ti AAA- Window Retention: 7.5 mm x 1 mm
Arc Ti AAA- LED Centering O-ring: -006
Arc Ti AAA- Head Seal: 9 mm x 1.5 mm

The ID sizes and material are not the problem I encounter when trying to get o-rings for my lights. It's usually o-ring thickness that's an issue. Most commonly available rings are too thick at the larger diameters found on lights.

The #0XX o-rings are nominally 1/16" in thickness which works out to 0.0625" or 1.5875 mm no matter what the inner diameter is.

If thinner ones are needed, there are metric size O-rings also available which are 1 mm (0.0394") in thickness. However, the metric O-rings are harder to find in the US, especially at reasonable prices.

Is there a specific light you have had particular trouble with?

I'd be interested in EDPM O-ring sets.

Krytox is technically synthetic, but should be safe for use with EDPM.

U2/Kroma heads use the same size O-ring as C series (P,U,M,K,C) tailcap/body joints.

Correct, any silicone based oil/grease or fluorinated oil/grease (like Krytox) will be safe on EPDM.

Anyone know the O-Ring sizes for Nitecore EX10? Particularly the head and piston ones?

The stock ones Nitecore uses are utter crap. They are ideal for better EDPM replacements.

I have an EX10 I will measure later tonight and post the results above in post #3. Unfortunately, it is most likely a metric size o-ring so one of the standard size o-rings, might not make a suitable replacement.

Orlando,

Count me in for 1 EPDM set (possibly 2).
As a side note, are the EPDM o-rings orange/red in color?

Thanks!

OK, I got you down for 1 maybe 2 sets.

The EPDM o-rings are typically black. The orange/red ones are typically silicone. That being said, any o-ring in any material can pretty much be made in any color.

Thanks! What are the advantages to silicone? It seems Don (McGizmo) likes to use those for the piston o-rings and o-rings between the body and head.

Silicone:
-80 to 400 F
-62 to 204 C
Typically used in static seals, not recommended for dynamic seals.
Advantage- Increased temperature range. Resistant to sun damage, ozone, fungal and biological attack
Disadvantage- Poor tear and abrasion strength.

The main of advantage of silicone, is the large temperature range. However, they are more prone to tearing and abrading and are typically not used for dynamic seals.

Nice Price for the lot of them
I'm down for a Pack of EPDM

FWIW I have a few red silicone o-rings and they need replacing
My GITD o-rings are holding up better but they are silicone too

Norm and Nein166 added to the list.

I checked pricing for a smallish order and it looks like it will be $7.00 shipped (US) per kit. 2 kits would be $11.00 shipped (US).

International, it will be $8.00 shipped for 1 kit and $13.00 shipped for 2.

Once I get everyones approval and I get a few more people interested, I will go ahead and place the order.

Hi RocketTomato,

I've been following this thread with interest, and am interested in a couple of kits of either EPDM (preferred) or Buta-N, whichever the common vote decides.

Many thanks for your efforts running this!

George

Can I use nanolube with epdm? That's really the only reason i voted buna, if it's safe i could care less. Can i skip all the other sizes and get a bunch of novatac and SF sized ones?

Thanks for the info! EPDM sounds like the best for my flashlight uses. You can put me down for a definite 2

Hi Bobby. Do you mean Silicone o-rings? They are more expensive then the EPDM o-rings. I will check on pricing. If there is enough interest, I could offer those also.

Looks like there is enough interest in the EPDM sets that I will place the order soon.

Not sure about the material, I think it is Silicone. They are the same ones you see on McGizmo Lights. Would love to purchase a set of those as well. PM replied
