The Announcements Forum

<font color="blue">This new forum will be used for Admin announcements. Hopefully this will cut down on having to announce things in the header but it will only work if the members check this forum for new posts on a daily basis. At times, I will post a link in the header to an announcement here that I feel needs everyone's attention.

New threads in this forum can only be started by Administrators and Moderators. All users have the ability to reply. If you have an announcement that you would like to make, please contact me by PM or email... sasha@candlepowerforums.com .

I think it is better to have a link on top of the main page if there is any new announcements so people will know there is new announcements

gtwace... the Announcements Forum is the first forum in the main index... which means it is the first forum that members should see when they bring up CPF. The little blue lightbulb icons indicate new posts. It has been my experience that more often than not, my announcements in the headers are ignored. Also, I am trying to respect the wishes of the members who don't like to have half of the main index page cluttered with all kinds of announcements forcing them to have to scroll forever just to get to the forums... that's why I created the Announcements Forum... Oh my, Sosh--- I've been sooo bad, me needs a whipping [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif[/img]! [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] (hurry, before I crawl back under my rock). I typically (hmm, you have data to support your experience of 'more often than not'...just curious), ignore the announcement forums and overlook just about everything, eyes going straight towards the intended target forums, primitive like Tim Allen (*grunts* like baboon/gorilla). 'Course being so primitive, that darned misleading centerfold shot of Larry's CRII has me gazing every time.

Oh to hell with those whining, wussy PC 'girlie mon' objectors. I mean seriously, have you been to other forums that have friggin big, big, big flashing ads at the top, bottom, and either one of the sides of the pages? A single small font line flashing at the top is going to kill some people, pleeeeeeease!? Oh sorry, am I speaking at a little louder than 3db above absolute silence? For those extremely sensitive types, my apologies; get out of your insulated worlds and try 'reality' of being stuck in the bumper-to-bumper traffic of urban/suburban freeways; where incensed maniacs are routinely driving on a mission to cause fatal accidents, flickin you off, cutting you off, or otherwise pulling out heavy artillery to shoot you when they go ballistic (no I'm not talking about Bagdad, been to Los Angeles lately? LOL)

Sasha, darling. Some of us, well me anyway, rarely look at the main index. I go directly to the latest threads. I think that for folks like me, some flashing doo-dah that says something like "Hey, important, read this announcement" is more likely to be seen and read. My $0.02.

Every time I refresh the CPF main page (which can be several times an hour at times), if I see that dark blue light bulb next to the Announcements forum (indicating one or more new messages), I'll check it at once.

Jefff, I think it's being discussed down in the Questions &amp; Problems Forum. Sasha took the feature out to see how much it was bogging the speed down.

You still have the past 24/48/72 hours option at the bottom of the main Forums page.

I gotcha .. Just read the whole thread and understand.. sorry for jumping the gun in this thread.. I am one of the ones that come and click that button every time I visit to see what's new.. Understand the problem though and hope you guys get it figured out.. Not griping at all just was lost .. thanks for the tip on the 24 hour button Sigman..
