Default Has anyone actually poofed a 4Sevens mini with a l-ion

Ok, it's not recommended, but it seem a number of you are putting rechargeables in your minis, especially the X. Has anyone actually killed a mini this way? I have a mini X NW and a mini HCRI. I like the idea of always having a fresh cell in my light. Thanks.

I run my MiniX occassionally with a AW IMR. It has awesome output with it. It measured 452 lumens in my lightbox. But I usually only run it for a minute or so max. I love my little light too much too chance burning it up.

Thanks rdrfronty. I'm thinking protected RCRs. I've never heard or read of anyone ruining a minx with a rechargeable .... yet.

Inserted a LiIon cell the wrong way round and poofed mine but, I'm sure that's not what you mean.

I managed to ruin mine running RCR's in it, unfortunately. So, yes it can happen.

Thanks guys. I think I'll stick with primaries for now.

I don't know about the mini, but I know I fried my switch in my preon i that I'd put a clickie in with my 10440 li-ion,

so i got a new switch, and realized that for the preon i, all the light I need I can get from an eneloop aa battery, and instead of about 11 minutes of runtime i got with the li ion, i get the 50+ minutes with the eneloop.

still my always-have-with-me light, my preon 1 clickie, but now I carry a quark turbo with a AA body and a li-ion if I need something more intense.

Man, I love that turbo head on a quark aa body. great!

Not sure about action/result: mine MiniAA still runs in something moonlight-like on LiIon on all constant brightness modes, and no luck on primaries and NiMH.

The wife's light, a Mini AA in warm, runs exclusively on a 14500 for huge output and been going prob years now with no ill effects. Love that light!

Yup. You and many others run the 14500 or an RCR123 in thier minis. It has been said a long time ago, and it is against 47's policy, that the biggest problem is the heat generated and driver component tollerances. Because of that they don't recommend it. Not every light is identical, and some will poof with the 14500 or an RCR123. Sounds like you have a keeper, and keep using the caution you have up til now. Other have not been as fortunate.

Well it basically makes the light direct drive. The emitter seems to be able to survive that, at least as long as it is in your hand. Great light anyways, and we certainly won't be giving it up.

I've only run my Mini AA on a 14500 since new over 2 yrs. now and have had no problems, but it's never on high more than a couple minutes at a time. It sure is BRIGHT!

No poof, but my one only works with a li-ion or alkaline as with a nimh it does this. Oh, and I only get high mode with the li-ion/alkaline as the other modes, the light flickers making those modes unusable and with the alkaline, low and medium are super low, but high is your "normal" high.

I created this guide so I wouldn't have to remember what cells to use in which light. I've never varied from it, too afraid of

There's not always a light at the end of the tunnel, so you had better bring your own.

    Me, too!

The AA Quark MiNi is just neglibly bigger than a lot of AAA lights, but one of those CRAA cells makes it perform like a CR123 light. This is my favorite travel combo.
