Yes I too have been experiencing exactly the same thing, and almost on a nightly basis. As a matter of fact it has just happened numerous times again now and after it having just come back online I am currently waiting for one of the pages to load and over 2 minutes has now passed yet with no success. Looks like that I may have spoken too soon as it is currently gone back to showing the "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later" message. For a short period of time after the server change I had really seen a huge improvement, however more recently it almost seems as though it has been worse than ever. I also know that it is not being caused by anything at my end, and this is proven correct by the fact that anywhere else that I try always seems to works flawlessly as per usual!

When I had said that it seems to be worse than ever I was describing it as seen from my perspective. The only reason that I had used this particular term was because in recent times I truly can't remember it being either quite as bad or it seeming to happen on such a regular basis. I am very pleased to hear that this has not been your personal experience, however all that I can really do is to try and accurately describe it to the best of my ability, and I am still very strongly of the opinion that I have actually achieved this with my previous post!

... Gentlemen... how many times do we have to go through this? The server performs certain functions in the middle of *MY* night. These functions include indexing for the search function and a complete backup of the database. Both of these functions are VERY server intensive due to the size of the database. Thes functions *HAVE* to be done every night. I'm sorry if it is YOUR day when this happens but no matter when it is done, it will affect someone. I have gone through some very thorough testing to get estimated times for each function so I could schedule them as close together as possible without overlapping. It is what it is and it all takes about an hour - give or take not much more. Constantly bitching about it is not going to change it. The only alternative is to close down the forums for an hour every day and run the processes then. I'm DONE doing that kind of stuff - it's a PITA! So now that you have figured out what time this happens for you - ummm... why not pick a different time to browse?

Further to my previous posts I have only just reread this thread from start to finish and this is what I have noted, keeping in mind that this thread was first started on the 27th of June. Also I just wanted to very clearly state that whenever these particular problems actually do occur, they do not happen if I was to visit anywhere else on the internet as they seem to be solely isolated to CPF only.

June 27TH: Several people posted that CPF is either completely down or timing out, and with some stating that it has been like this for the past couple/few hours.

June 28th: Several other people also state basically the same thing as above. It was also mentioned that CPF momentarily came back online only to be showing the "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later" message again not long after.

June 30th: I was chatting by email with both European and US based fellow CPF members whilst we also attempted to simultaneously browse the forum, however once again we all experienced exactly the same issues as previously stated.

July 2nd: Exactly the same situation as above and once again those involved experienced all of the same issues as well!

July 4th: Member TooManyGizmos posts that he is currently getting the "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later" message again. I also experienced this too, as well as numerous extremely slow page loading issues and several connection timeouts.

July 5th: Earlier today I had experienced all of the exact same issues all over again, then several hours later just as I had been right in the middle of trying to post about it in this thread (see post #37), same stuff all over again.



OK then, so it seems as though that over an eight day period since the OP's original post, that just as can be seen above there have been numerous reports from several various people who have all been experiencing exactly the same issues. It is also shown that this has been occurring on at least 6 out of the last 8 days since this particular thread has first been started. Now if a percentage rate is calculated on a daily basis that would then mean that there have been reports of people experiencing issues on 75% of the days that this thread has been in existence. That doesn't really seem to be a very good strike rate to me at all, and this is exactly what I had been trying to portray when I had previously stated that "Yes I too have been experiencing exactly the same thing, and almost on a nightly basis" and when I also said "more recently it almost seems as though it has been worse than ever". Under the circumstances and with the above examples in mind, I do not feel as though I have overstated the magnitude of the current situation in any way shape or form.

You did achieve your viewpoint in your previous post .

I was just trying to be kind to Greta , as she has made many changes recently , and I'm sure she would hope that you've seen vast improvements in the availability of CPF recently .

I have been on here multiple times - daily- for the last 6+ years .
I rarely missed a day , so that is the perspective I speak from .
That's why my opinion is that it's ... not worse than ever .

I hope the availability of CPF improves for you .

Thanks for your reply as I do appreciate it, and I most definitely was not having a go at either you or Greta or anyone else for that matter, nor did I feel that you were deliberately trying to belittle my perspective. I only posted my response because I wanted to be completely factual about the current events and from where I see it, and I did not want anyone to think that I was just having what could be construed as a totally unnecessary whinge and that I may have been grossly exaggerating how things really were.

for what we all get out of CPF, for FREE:

-well modded threads, minimal crap as found in other forums
-intelligent and thoughtful members posting
-cool gizmos for sale and discussion everywhere

I can easily deal with the occasional outage if it is needed to keep CPF moving forward.
