I spoke with Gene not too long ago and he's happy with the beam!

Thus, the Malkoff Nichia Dropins are a go!

These are Malkoff M61 dropins with the Nichia NVSL219AT-H1 LED, so they are Whiter, Brighter, and Higher CRI than the M61HCRI!

I am told that the beam is slightly floodier than the standard M61 (there is a ring around the spill)

Gene is working quite quickly on the modules! The pre-order special may not last very long.
On the other hand, my supplier hasn't been responding to emails about the boarded LEDs. they're not very good with communication sometimes but I hope they'll come in soon.

Perhaps if you read the many posts about the high cri nichia 119 haiku you'll see that the description was often "a lack of tint...". I find that the 219 is very similar. Your brain seems to not need to 'translate' colors. My bet is that you will like it soon after using it!!

UPDATE:

I took my Malkoff MD2 with this M61 219 drop in out this morning for my 5 AM walk with the dogs... - and it's everything I love and have gushed about with the High CRI Haiku, only with a bit more than twice the output. People have mentioned colors "popping" - I would suggest a similar but slightly different take - colors are just what they are supposed to be. As is mentioned over and over in this thread (and others), it seems that your brain doesn't have to 'process' the colors - rather it is able to see them more as they are with less effort.

Heady stuff considering my lack of knowledge about such things, but what I do know is that it is pleasing to me to view anything illuminated by this light. And as has been mentioned (and is mentioned again further down in the thread), the minimal ring is a non issue. Just a nice spot with an even transition out to spill, with consistent tint throughout the beam.

Wow this thing seems even whiter than my CRI haiku with the 119. And about twice as bright to the naked eye!

I don't see this ring in the spill at all, except on a white wall. This ring is and should be a "non issue" IMO. I can't think of one situation where this would come into play as a distraction. But I'm sure someone will.

I am running this in a 6P bc it doesn't choke the spill like the MD2 head does.

Notes on my M61L 219:

The tint has become quite a bit cooler after about 10 hours of use. The light is also brighter now after 10 hours - I would have to say at least 110 lumens. The ceiling bounce I get now compared to when I first used it is much better. Still using a protected AW 17670 and the module will stay regulation down to 2.86 volts.
