Hi there everyone,

Let's see if we can make this happen. This is a solicitation for a group buy of the MagicFire 40W HID torch. The dealer's product introduction thread is found here. This GB is for a minimum total purchase quantity of 10 units, any mix of 5000K and 4300K. At this time, spare battery carriers and HID bulbs are not included in the GB.

Here is what has transpired thus far.

1. we have an interest list of over 10 participants
2. I am attempting to finalize unit cost and shipping cost for total order dropship
3. I am starting to figure out the logistics of redistribution

Here is what will happen in this GB.

1. When you post your interest, you are making a making a tentative commitment, including your CCT choice
2. When I am ready to place the order, you will finalize your commitment
3. I will purchase the entire GB lot and receive the entire lot via drop shipment
4. When I have processed the lot and prepared individual orders for shipment, participants will forward payment to my PayPal account covering all fees
5. Your cost will be the cost of the torch, your share of the drop shipping to me, and the cost of shipment to you + PP fees
6. If you do not use PayPal, I will accept bank check, certified check, or US Postal Money Order and your torch will ship upon clearance
7. I am considering a flat fee for shipment based on USPS Flat Rate Priority
8. I am doing this as a service to the community and my fellow flashaholics, no service fee will be charged

Important details.

1. If you decide to withdraw after I have placed the order, you lose your torch and I will not sell it to you upon reconsideration
2. I will not open any packages, inspect, or test any lights. I will simply, randomly take them out of the big box and put them in smaller boxes
3. If your unit is defective, you will contact CNQuality directly for support. I will not communicate or arbitrate for you.
4. This group buy is intended primarily for residents of the US and Canada. International orders will be considered on a case by case basis and will require higher postage costs.

I will maintain the second post of this thread for the signup list. Operational details will be delivered in this post.

Per CN's PM, the cost per unit up to 10 is $150, 11+ is $145.
Shipping cost is approximately $89/$93 for the lot.
Total drop shipped cost per unit for a 10-piece lot: $158.90.
Total drop shipped cost per unit for an 11-piece lot: $153.45.
Estimated "to-you" shipping cost, Priority to Priority Flat Rate: $9-15.54, package size dependent
Total Possible Price Per Unit cost including PayPal fees: $169-$180

So folks, it looks like we could save a couple of bucks to right around what it would cost if we took CN up on the deal. Basically, there isn't a ton of savings unless we hit 11 participants and if I can go with Priority and not Priority Flat Rate packaging. If the group decides it would rather do this individually, then we can dissolve the Group Buy. But if we hit 11, then it's still a decent deal and we have the fun of a buy/split.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Guys, looks like this GB isn't going to hold together. As it is unlikely to get an influx of 5 more participants, I am inclined to cancel this Group Buy. If you've got a discount link, I'd suggest you use it. If not, contact CN for one.

It was almost fun and perhaps next time we'll get a better deal and people will hang on. Glad to have given it a go this time.

You'd then take the shipping to you, and divide by the # of lights, and add the average of that to each light.

Then, whatever the shipping is to the individuals would just be added to the above 2 numbers, for the total due for each of us.

You bet and thanks. As for your edit on post 1 about the economics of the deal, I think we'll get 11+ and a better price. What I think I like most though would be the 'family' of people on the GB and sharing experiences with the lights. (And pics! Or it just never did happen!)

Just a heads up in case you didn't see that I edited my earlier post. Due to the fact that I wanted to order a few other items and for the sake of expediting delivery, I just used the DHL option. Whether it was $30 from them or $15 from you didn't matter that much to me. I Just wanted it quick and with some accessories.

Hi Wilkey - I'm not sure how we were at 11+ in the dealer thread but we're only at 7 so far here. Since the cost is going to be about the same, I went ahead and ordered mine using my group buy code in the dealer thread. It was $170 with registered air mail. I'm just not sure we're going to gain much from waiting on a larger group buy.

I went and followed Rick's directions in the thread, and as described, I paid the non-discounted price via paypal...and then he issued a refund to my paypal for the difference the next day.

IE: In the notes part of the transaction, I said I was Teej, and gave the discount coupon code he'd assigned to me...he took care of the rest.

Painless.

I'll probably have the light next week.
