This looks very nice and the price seems very reasonable. What batteries are the 1 hour runtime based on?

The web site says its a Magic Fire, the post says its a Magic Fire, the flashlight says its a Magic Scorpion AND a Magic Fire...depending on the pic.

What kind of Magic IS it?

What is the Klux on it?????

Beamshoots against a SR90 or VaraPower Turbo or other 2000 lumens thrower would be better IMHO.

Happy to see some compact HID now!!!!

Yes, indeed it is nice to see a truly compact HID. I think it is the smallest HID light over 30 watts that I have seen yet. It would also be nice to know a lux measurement.

The price is very reasonable for a compact HID of this wattage! Interested in the lux as well, should be at least 100k-150k lux, given the 40W rating and the 2.5 inch reflector. What's the ballast start up time like?

    OK

Kept seeing both, but the web site just identifies it by brand w/o mentioning the model...so it was confusing.

Thanks, that sounds great then! I also really like the fact that this uses 18650's instead of a proprietary pack. This way it can last someone a lifetime with the bulb/ballast life of HID and easily replaced/available batteries. Nice job.

Sorry that you guys aren't receiving the (rightfully) expected updates - that can be ultra-annoying.

While communication can sometimes be an issue, I've never been left hanging on an order by Ric.

The one time there was product missing from my order, he expressed out the items - no questions asked.

I know it's easy to encourage patience, as it's not my money. All I can say is that well over a dozen orders have been concluded between he and I, and all ended with complete satisfaction.

LOL - Which would be fine if there was for example a WAY to order a spare battery carrier, etc.

Hence the questions...and waiting for answers. I don't think any one thinks ill of Rick, I think we assume he's busy and hasn't checked back yet.

it is just pretty annoying to get no response from the OP.
even a simple" sorry guys, i am currently too busy at the moment, give me some time to clear some stuff and i will get back to you guys ASAP! "

My only conclusion is that Rick must have had a REALLY special Valentine's Day with his partner and is probably way too drained out physically and intoxicated to answer any of our Q's. Let's just hope his drinks lots of chicken essence and RedBull and we all wish him a speedy recovery...

Perhaps to us grumbling people, we're just jealous that he had a better Valentine's Day than us???

I would guess that other CPFers have already ordered the light (hello Mohan )
and we just have to wait for their reports.
Hello Wai - I have ordered and paid a week ago. Looks like there may be simply stock issues. Comms have been difficult as noted it can be a bit hit and miss. Ric has always been helpful so I am going to patiently wait until the package turns up. Will post info when I get the package or news of item been shipped.

Ok - got my magic scorpion today. Shipped from Hong Kong on Saturday. Here at my door this afternoon. Less than 1 working day. Amazing DHL.

The light was simply packaged in bubble wrap. I think this was to help me as I had only paid for EMS shipping and I got bumped unto DHL express. Inside the torch were some spare O rings and a spare clicky switch (it would need to be soldered onto the battery cage)

The light is compact but does feel hefty. The dimensions are as described - it simply will not fit into a large Jacket pocket as it is quite bulky and heavy once you load x4 18650 cells. You could use it with flat top cells as there is a lip on the positive terminal on the battery cage.

The build quality is ok - no defects noted on the exterior. Feels solid with no rattling. Threads are well made and lights screws nice and tight.

The HID bulb is non enveloped - when you remove the reflector you do rub the exposed wire. This wire is stiff so it will not break easily - just be careful not to break the wire. The hole in the reflector just about allows the bulb to slide inside. I haven't tried to dismantle the bulb as it looks I will have to find a tool of some sorts to grab the the 2 holes on a disc to unscrew it to release it ( a bit like a giant pill in a p60 drop in)

The beam is not really focusable - you can twiddle with the reflector but all your doing is unscrewing and making it lose. It will alter the beam somewhat but i think that was not design. Good news however is that out of the box it is nicely focussed beam in my opinion. You wont need to adjust it as the beam is very useful with good spot and reasonable spill without seing the arc of the bulb. The light is quite neutral in colour - not the usual blue HID colour. In fact to my eyes it looks like 5000k. The light reaches max intensity in less than 15 seconds - average around 11 seconds. For those who love neutral light this is going to be way better than the usual blue HID light colour.

It is still day light here in the UK so I can't take any outdoor beam shots but I took a single shot inside by hobby room that has very little outdoor light exposure just to show the tight beam ( picture doesn't really show that well - sorry). Hope it conveys the light colour.

My conclusion - better than the eBay HID torches as it uses 18650 cells. Dont know what run time I will get. No way of knowing when you are going to run out juice as there is no battery indicator. Good beam, bright and yet neutral and takes less than 15 seconds to reach max intensity. For the price it is a good value HID torch. My quest still goes on to find a compact Polarion like torch that fits in my pocket and throws a mile!

It is a reverse clicky. A spare bulb would be handy. No advantage in having a spare battery cage as it takes seconds to change the batteries.

Just tried it out in the dark and it throws very well. I am actually surprised by the throw. It may be not as bright as the 75w eBay hid torch but I think it throws better. I cannot get my eBay HID torch to work as all 3 batteries are totally flat after been left on the shelf for 3 weeks. Yes after 3 weeks the eBay hid torch batteries are flat as a pancake - probably now beyond use due to the discharge. Thankfully this will not be the case with the Scorpion as the 18650 cells hold the charge for several weeks without any appreciable loss. This light reminds me of Waynes lights (Elektrolumens) - similar to the Big Bruiser but noticeably larger.

thanks. The reason im asking is i got the UF-T70 torch and want some reverse clicky spares to solder onto the batt cage. Any idea where one might get them?

Thanks Mohan for the first impressions.
I am on the fence about this light. I just spend a boat load of $$$ on a knife
Saturday night and I really cant justify spending more money right now
Some night-time beamshots might push me over in the right direction

BTW .... Dude you really have to tidy your hobby room up :P

Wai - the hobby Room is messy - but it is not as bad as it appears in the picture. Promise...

Here are some rudimentary night shots that I took. I really looked stupid flashing a torch at somebodys house from my drive. I can't find my tripod mount plate (got the tripod but what use if you cant find the plate Grrr..) so I had to hold the camera with my hand and a torch on the other or leave it on the top of my car roof. Not ideal to take beamshots. But here you go for what is worth. I know I am turning into a flashaholic as everybody thought I was mad trying to photograph 'beamshots'

    Control shot of my street

Scorpion - not a bad throw - OK I could not centre it properly on the house that is far away but you get the idea

The Polarion PH50 in comparison - the whole picture looks overexposed

Control shot of my wall of the house from 12m

    Magic Scorpion - nice beam

Polarion - Beam appears uniform and is more intense
