    Default ------>New Jetbeam i4 Charger - V2 Coming March 20! <-----

    CPF'ers,

    UPDATE March 13/12

The new and improved i4 V2 is due to be in stock on March 20! We have updated our site to reflect the improvements and changes that were made at the request of customers.

We are now open for pre-orders. I'm starting a new thread for this since this one is filled with information and specs for the old chargers. I want people to be able to post in the new thread about upgrades, experiences, etc.

    Thanks!
    Flavio

[b]We apologize for the delays in getting you an update concerning the Sysmax i4 charger. We have been working with Jetbeam on the best way to take care of the customers that have already ordered and received the i4 charger.

Below is a letter from Sysmax and instructions for customers that purchased the i4 charger from us (BugOutGearUSA.com & JetbeamUSA.com)

    "Dear Customer:

Sysmax i4 Charger Recall (For US market)

Sysmax Corporation is voluntarily recalling the Sysmax i4 Charger due to a compatibility issues with US AC 110V electrical standard.

A recent review of the Sysmax i4 chargers shows that certain battery types may not charge correctly when using the included power cord. We have also been made aware of potential issues when charging different battery chemistry types at the same time. Therefore, we are instructing US customers who have purchased a Sysmax i4 charger to contact their dealer for return instructions.

As a precautionary measure, Sysmax recommends you immediately discontinue using the i4 charger. If customers choose, Sysmax will mail out a replacement 12V DC wall wart adapter as a replacement for the stock cord. These customers will receive a complimentary replacement unit as soon as they become available.

Sysmax is currently working on a revised i4 charger for the US market. The new i4 V2 charger will be sent out to select US reviewers for approval to make sure they are compatible with US 110V standard. No other Sysmax products are affected by this recall.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and assure you that our engineers are working feverishly to resolve this issue. We appreciate your cooperation and attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,
    SYSMAX Corporation"

If you currently purchased a charger from Bugoutgearusa.com or JetbeamUSA.com you may return the charger for a full refund. We are emailing all of our customers with instructions on how to return your chargers. If you do not receive an email by November 3rd please contact us directly at: (sales@bugoutgearusa.com). You may also call us at 888-221-5498 between 9-5pm M-F EST.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation.

that is one bright light! How do they get 550 lumens out of one RCR123 battery? Very nice.

Do we know if it can only charge 2 or 4 cells ... or is it capable or charging 1,2,3 or 4 cells at a time?

Each bay can charge batteries independently. So you can charge 1, 2, 3, or 4 cells at a time.

For your reference here is the instruction manual for the charger:

I'm not sure I can wait for a review on this. At that price point you can't really lose!

Just to confirm: this charger advertises "trickle-charge" and "automatically stops charging when complete". Do you know if this charger will trickle-charge Li-ion batteries?

I'm really only interested in this charger to charge AA right now. I don't know very much about chargers. The specs on this charger say it can charge 1 to 2 AA at 1000ma. Would this be too hard on a AA NiMH?

If it's confirmed that there's true termination for Li rechargeables, I'm in.

Anyone know how a charger can detect battery chemistry? I'm curious to how it works, so I can feel better that it won't make a mistake and try to fry my NiCads up to 4.2V

Since the charger can charge in constant current mode (CC), wouldn't that be interesting if it could charge nickel-zinc 1.6-1.8V AAs...and do so more reliably than PowerGenix's own chargers?
nickel-zinc (NiZn) AA cells: 1.6V @ 2 amps, flat discharge curve, $3 per cell, safe--the next generation of rechargeable AA.

I see that for just $5 more, we can add a 12V car adapter!

Actually, the other question, besides true charge termination: the specs seem to say 1000ma charge rate if 2 slots are used. That's too much for 10440, 16340, etc... is that a max, or will it be pushing an amp into a 10440?

Good question. I would also love to know. I asked Jetbeam themselves but didn't get an answer to this specific question.

It turns out there's a thread on cpf proper about it http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...tellicharge-i4 Hopefully we'll get an answer on the charging specs. My guess is 500/1000 is a max that can be adjusted, or we'll see a re-writing of the supported batteries list (no 10440 support, 14500/16340 only when charged 4 at a time, etc)

Hi BugoutGear. What is the absolute maximum length battery that this charger can take...? Can you perhaps measure it for us, please....?
