The positive contact makes contact with the center of the positive pole of the battery. The negative pole makes contact offset from the center of the negative pole. This works quite well as a reversed polarity protection as the negative spring cannot make contact with the smaller positive pole of the battery. The extra space around the battery isn't deep enough to allow a larger battery to fit. If you remove the battery then take a picture you'll see that the hole for the battery is only large enough to fit an 18650 and the hole is offset to one side, away from the emitter pocket.

The offset postition is needed to give space for the led (and probably pcb).

Which is visible in the photograph (see the scratches in the negative pole of the battery).

Sigh Re: SD series headlamp from Spark Tech, which is not only a headlamp...

Well, I got the light now. Unfortunately, I do have some disappointments.

First of all, I ordered a neutral white, but got a cool white.

Secondly, my Redilast 2900mAh cells are too long, they don't fit. I tried to turn the cap as tight as I dared and managed to bend the button top of the battery (very) slightly. No light. Luckily, I believe that the battery is still ok. Of course, my old AW 2200 mAh cells fit fine.

    Also:

This is true only partially. It starts from the mode it was shut off and then starts to ramp up from low. So, no preserving of night vision like in Zebralight.

I have to think what to do with the cool white thing. I don't have skills or equipment to change the led (well, the equipment part is going to change in less than a month or so and I believe doing it would be no problem, too. Needed to buy some arctic silver, though). Still, I would like to have an original stock version. At least I won't be sending it back by DHL, unless Spark has some kind of agreement with them. I checked their homepage for the costs, and I was given a sum of €167 (more than $200). (It was sent to me by DHL, even though I didn't pay extra for it. I guess the one week vacation time, if that was in HK, was needed...).

I'll consider the led swap vs. sending the light back. Buying another light (=NW) for a considerable discount and trying to sell the cool white to some of my local friends could be an option, too. PM time, I guess...

xyber, when the reflector for SD6 become available? I'm just thinking if you do this in a reasonable time... if so, i wait, and you send the the NW pcb and reflector in the same package.

Hi, Esko, that can be done. Just let me know which type you need, the one for ST6 or for SD6. Actually I can show you how to DIY a very powerful headlamp, gonna post a picture of the stuff I made.

This was also forgotten.. I was waiting for the price quote, then thought that you might include them for no charge, and then forgot to ask to make sure. Still available? No hurry, and interested in the reflector once it will be available, too...

Those spare space is to reduce the total weight of the SD6.

    interesting design...
imagine what that extra space can be used for?
another LED, red or UV maybe?
    another switch?
if there were 2 LEDs, 1 can be flood, and the other can be reflector based.

on a different note regarding the anodized area around the LED. what if that part was polished? to resemble a reflector a little.
it seems shallow enough to still be a pure flood beam, but might not lose as many OTF lumens? maybe even gain a bit more beam distance.

    anyways, just a thought...
love the designs... the only lights that have had my interest in many months.

The only thing that worries me about that is the use of M4 threads and how little threads are there for the screw to grab onto. I'm worried that either the screw will snap off or the screw will pull out.

I receive mine yesterday, I try to put the mag pad and the adaptor but fit very tight, it is normal?

The threads in my light (now spankone's light) were a bit rough at first, but they got smooth with one or two screw ins and outs (screw the pad in rather tightly, but not too tightly, the threads are a bit small anyway).

Exactly, I think that the threads in the tail cap are not the same exatly size or measurements that the mag pad

Got mine a couple of days ago, and while I haven't used it on the job yet, I'm sure it'll be perfect.
I also removed the top strap, just for comfort, which doesn't seem to impact stability at all.

Very happy with it overall, cheers Spark!

The tightness is due to the HAIII surface finishing. The hard anodized film adds 40um on the surface wich makes the thread tight. This is the big difference of the real HAIII compared to the normal anodization.
