Beam- I'm not sure what is scarier- you posting that last caption or me getting the reference! Showing my age, I guess...
I just got a call demanding I turn in my "mancard" for even having that image readily available in my memory banks, but I successfully defended myself by stating that back in the day that was what we had to compete with.
We aren't that old.........
Good luck and we need more captions folks!![]()

I'm going out again to try and get that B-17 and hopefully a P-51 flying over the London Bridge. Word has it they will be taking off from the airport at about 5PM my time. Need to get down to the channel and get set up. My attempts this morning were a bust as the B-17 decided to take the long route around the island instead of flying over the bridge. So I may not be here exactly when the photo caption contest ends. But I'll be here shortly after...Meanwhile... here is a pic of the B-17 that I was lucky enough to get last night while out kayaking...

Thank you Greta for offering such an incentive. Just signed up tonight and made a donation! What a great cause to support!
"OK, I'm almost ready for my 'Stud-of-the-Month' calendar photo shoot...who's got my shades?"
Every time I see one of those old "Flying Fortresses," I can't help but think of how crazy the ball turret gunner had to be!![]()

Ok... Most of you came pretty close to the caption I gave to Hank's picture on my FaceBook page... Click Here to see.
Everyone who submitted an entry into the caption contest will get an entry into the drawing! Thanks everyone... I have laughed at all of the entries... they are all AWESOME!
I will announce who gets the Kroma when I announce who gets the Titan... a little less than an hour to go...![]()
Here are the entry #s for those who submitted entries into the caption contest...
Beamhead - #79
conan1911 - #80
Got Lumens? - #81
Bimmerboy - #82
Toohotruk - #83
Getting everything ready for the drawing... about 30 minutes to go!
Need to clarify... the first pic of the B17 was not taken from afloat... we had just put the kayak in the water and were ready to hop in when my husband noticed the plane and told me to take a pic of it... so I did...
The other two pics were taken this evening from shore walking down through the channel. I have to say that I *AM* kinda proud of what I did get... no tripod... point, say a prayer, and click. Damn good camera is what makes them as good as they are... not the photographer in this case...![]()
Donation sent, e-mail forwarded, and here's the little "awareness raising" story I alluded to earlier (as if I weren't already aware, but you get my point).
This past Easter Sunday, as I lay on the living room floor at my aunt's house in a food induced stupor, my second cousin, who I haven't seen since he joined the Army a few years ago, makes a surprise appearance. In my grogginess, I pulled myself off the floor to shake his hand, and say hello. I then promptly went back to my spot on the floor as I still couldn't handle the engorgement earlier that day.
He had just come home from Iraq after spending a month in the hospital (in a different country), and told everyone what happened. I got the story later on, second hand.
Long story short, some friendly chap had thrown a type of grenade that fires downwward, onto the top of his lightly armored vehicle, and caused a lot of damage. He hid his injuries well, and I had no idea at first, but from what I heard later on, he still has mesh covering his abdomen wounds, and has a hole in his back.
Now, whatever one thinks of some of our recent Middle East involvements, the fact remains that the individuals who make up our armed forces are risking death for our benefit, so that we may have the security of being half asleep, and stuffed with food on Easter Sunday. This, at the very least, deserves my private support, and am proud to have made my first financial contribution, in addition to past moral support.
BTW... "risking death for our benefit"??... that's an understatement. What we're ordering our guys to do is pretty much insanity. It's been obvious for quite some time that we're only allowing them to fight under near suicidal conditions, with one and a half hands tied behind their backs (the early Fallujah battles still stick in my craw!!!). I heard some things regarding my cousin's story that can only serve to reinforce this observation.
I'll call him to double check, but apparently this is the news, direct from the front lines:
1. The philanthropist who ran up and threw the grenade, got in a car and stopped about two blocks away in order to see what damage he caused. My cousin's unit radio'ed into the C.O. to get permission to engage the enemy. He could not be reached. By the time a local Sgt. said "screw this", the enemy was gone, and could not be found.
Lovely... just f'ing lovely.
2. Fifty caliber rounds are now outlawed for our troops to use in Iraq. Why?... because they MIGHT cause "too much" collateral damage.
This is very bad news because many of the "insurgents" like to hide behind brick, or cinder block walls which the 50 cal. can blast away. They're now being told they have to do the same miserable job with freakin' .308 NATO!
What about collateral damage to our soldiers as a result of this decision?!
I'm completely outraged. Anything else I'd want to say at the moment will have to be restricted to the Underground, and I may have already overstepped my bounds... except for...
I will continue to give various forms of support to our military. And, thanks for starting this most excellent fundraising drive/giveaway, Greta. Your generosity is highly noted!
I'm an excellent driver. Of course I don't have my underwear... I'm definitely not wearing my underwear
Got Lumens? .... here's a puppy pic of Hank... don't know if it will work for you or not...
