It depends, if I was selling advertising space I would feel an obligation to my customers that I sell the space to to ensure uptime, just like every other pay-for-space site on the 'net. If I was just giving it away with no ads, then obviously that's a different story. But from where I'm sitting it looks like this is a pay-for-space site. How would you feel if you were a paid advertiser on a site that can't stay up? Its not like this is 1993 or something... As a former IT consultant I assure you there are simple, affordable ways to ensure uptime.

I think that most paid advertisers on the MarketPlace would rather pay up than not, since the CPFMarketplace seems to be the Premier place to advertise. If they think its not worth it, then they could always stop but I've not seen many dropping out. I'm not aware of any catastrophic downtime on the Marketplace and believe me I'm on both CPF proper and Marketplace extremely frequently. If you or anybody else thinks you can do a better job, why not set up a rival forum and prove it? Action speaks louder than words.

I have to say: I admin a vBulletin board (not as busy as CPF, but reasonably busy nonetheless - I have 400 users and bots online just now to CPF's 800). I see more downtime here in a week than my board has seen in a year. This holds true on a couple other vB boards I frequent - ones much busier than CPF - so it's not the vB software. It's just odd.

I don't know what the issues on these two CFP boards are, but they're unusually frequent. It obviously doesn't kill the community, though; whether measured by traffic or content or civility, it's an exemplary board and a place to be proud of.

I have to say that the sluggishness and downtime have saved me a lot of money on the market place. I tried to buy a few lights, wouldn't load or so sluggish that I walked away. Came back in half or an hour later and the lights were sold.

Same thing here...I've lost the chance at a couple of lights due to site problems. Saved some money on something I would have bought on an impulse, so I have mixed emotions about it.

I'm pretty out of the loop. Is CPF Main currently not operational? Its not working. Thanks.

Edit: I did get in. I'm seeing from other posts that this is a chronic issue.

It is very slow here. And email notifications are not double, they come 5-10 times per topic with the same content.
    It is overload.

    Yes, it appears so.
Many others have reported the same thing over the past couple of weeks. Someone has suggested that it is the host for CPF, and not CPF themselves. It is hard to get a clear answer as to what is happening.
I have waited as little as ten-fifteen minutes and it was backup and running, slow, but properly. This issue has caused many multiple postings. In my case, I hit submit, and it just sits there, but don't hit it twice. The server is receiving the request and processing it, but not sending it back to my browser. I simply open a duplicate tab (Ctrl-N or Ctrl-K{IExploder}) and walla there is my submitted post. During the time I wrote this, a new page for CPF was opened up ~4 minutes or so agp, and has come up.

Actually, as a longtime IT administrator, I can tell you that is legitimate advice for a system problem that has gone on as long unresolved at the CPF/CPFM crash/downtime conundrum, assuming all other relavent measures have been attepted first. Of course a backup is performed before the wipe.

It is freaking out again, since 1,5 hrs.
The page loads ....and loads... and finally gets a time out.
