Default Maelstrom X7 vs TurboX 1232, Same specs, What's the diff?

I'm looking forward to both of these lights, but when looking at the max lumens and beam angle for both, there seems to be no difference. Are form factor and price going to be the only differentiators? Will both take 18650, or only the X7? I sure wish the X7 was more of a thrower like the G5!

They do seem similar in output. However the X7 is in the Maelstrom series and is a sibling to the G5, so I can assume it is made to be weapon mounted.

Quotes from the 4sevens G5 page:
    "One-inch weapon mountable body"
"Shock-mounted battery design holds the batteries firmly inside to the body of the light, avoiding self-destructive battery movement. The light is ready to be weapon mounted."

There could be more to it, but this is the first thing i noticed.

What's the difference?? There's a huge difference between the Turbo tactical interface and the Maelstrom interface. Also as mentioned it is much more resistant to shock and recoil due to how the batteries are held in place.

I believe 4sevens chose less throw so that this can be used in tactical situations where a lot of flood light is needed. Room clearing and that. Putting a huge turbo head on there to match the throw of the G5 would have made it unusable as a weapon light.

Does this mean that the Quark Turbo is not intended to be weapon mountable? I thought the Quark Turbo was one of Nutnfancy's favorite weapon lights...

Possibly not. I think the larger head makes it overly cumbersome for that application. Moreover the body diameter of the Turbos is not ideal for weapon mounting. My understanding is that the Turbos are simply beefed up versions of the 'tactical' interfaced quarks while the Maelstroms are 4sevens flagship tactical/weapon lights. Nutnfancy is one person and however informed his views are the Maelstrom is specifically designed to be weapon mountable while the Turbos are not. Of course that doesn't mean they can't also be used in such an application, just that they aren't optimized for it.

Got my Turbo-X and lego'ed away. 18650 tube and deep carry pocket clip. Like as if I'm going to carry this in my pocket... I'm waiting for the 47's leather holster still. *wow* the beam and throw are excellent. I felt like a spotlight at a Hollywood premier throwing that beam into the sky!

Shown with 18650 and some of it's neighbors from the top shelf (L->R LF2XT, Gavina 123, Gatlight V2 SS & WeeNS) Sorry for poor quality cell phone pic

The Reason the X7 is not as good a thrower as the G5 is its 3mm shorter reflector, it is the same reflector that is used in the TurboX. I had ordered a spare G5 OP reflector prior to buying the X7. I was bummed when I noticed it wouldn't fit, I really like the OP option, it smooths out the beam alot with sacrificing very little throw.

It sounds like if you don't need it mounted on a gun, the Turbo is a much better value. I can get a TurboX, 2x17670's and the charger for only a little bit more than it costs to get the Maelstrom. You get more output, for a longer runtime, and more throw! (Last one is subjective, I like a bit throwier lights without going full Aspheric.)
I don't notice any difference in throw, but on my two lights, The TurboX does seem abit brighter.
