I can see all the advertisers in one page w/o waiting for ad rotation here:
http://97.74.124.146/ Then the page links to CPF vs CPFMP, but CPF is still not ready.

If this IP is the server, does this mean CPF is moving to the server that CPFMP already on

I am having withdraw...Please, don't force me to go out on the weekend... up.....p......p........

CPFClassifieds was moved to the new server last week. That is NOT the same server that the MP resides on. I do not keep the two forums on the same server. Just not a smart idea.

The database is almost completely uploaded now (about another hour, give or take). Then I'll need to do a few other things and we should be back up and running. So just a couple more hours - shouldn't be more than that...

Ugh... I hate moving to new servers and having to reconfigure every little thing and upgrade the software on the server because it is only provisioned with what the server host considers to be "the latest stable version"... which is another way of saying, "the version that was outdated 3 years ago"...

I'm sure glad I found this thread. So CPF is truly undergoing re-constructive surgery. I thought I ticked off someone and got banned. Not that I really think I posted anything particularly controversial or offensive.

What's weird is when you go to one of those sites that tests whether or not a site is up and running and it keeps saying "up and running, just not for you"..... Kind of makes you wonder you know?

Yes, this was scheduled - for me. I did not announce it because the exploit that existed here at the MarketPlace still exists on the old CPF server. The exploit was "activated" here at the MarketPlace when I announced I was going to do some upgrading due to an exploit. I did not want to risk having the same thing happen with CPF so I did not announce my intentions.

    I don't buy it.

    For real.

I don't really care what the reason for the new server is. If it makes the site faster and more reliable (i.e. reduces downtime, connection errors, double posts etc.) I am all for it.

Trolling, in and of itself, merits corrective measures. Trolling as a form of entertainment to offer "look what I'm doing over at CPF" bragging at other boards merits permanent removal.

I've run into a snag with conflicting versions of software. I'm working on getting some help with it as I know it's not a difficult problem to solve but I think I've run into the "forest for the trees" scenario where I just can't work it out at the moment.

I, like most everyone else, is really missing CPF this weekend and can't wait to have it back up. However, if it wasn't for the efforts of so many, CPF wouldn't even exist, let alone be such a treasure chest of information. On behalf of most of the members here, thank you Greta and all the others for all the work you do on these two awesome sites!!!

    Greta,

I have a suggestion on possibly reducing sever management headaches in the future.

I used to run marketing, part of my responsibilities was the web. When we make major web changes, I'd ask the IT to do it on a separate server as beta version, basically, making sure everything works on the beta site before making it live or take down the old version & turn on the new. When we made server migration, we had a back-up server just in case.

In short, when making changes, there's always dual server running in parallel. I am not sure if dual server is practical for CPF, however, since CPFMP is already on a separate server, perhaps when making major CPF changes, you could make a temp. "CPF lite" with a copy of last 2 month contents running on CPFMP? That way, CPF will be up running with limited functions but still allow everyone to get on it & enjoy the site while risky server updates could be performed in parallel?

    Just some food for thoughts

Yep that is the standard, you duplicate your forum on the new server, work on it as long as necessary to make it functionnal and when ready you make the old forum read only and update the new one with the database update that occured since you duplicated the forum, take care of the dns and voila , if done properly it should be almost transparent to the user with very little downtime if any.

actually the best way is 2 VMware esxi hosts, running HA VM's, and both iScsi and NFS storage

there are a dozen ways to guarantee 5 9's, what I post ^^^ is what I'd consider simple and easy, and quick to set up

Isn't this the reason that 99% of the forums, websites, and networks in the universe are backed up, upgraded, and maintained while at the user end functionality and access remains unchanged?

To be clear, I am discussing this with the guy who posted the suggestion...not offering any suggestions to CPF. I don't like shooting myself in the foot.

And I was concerned about becoming a flashaholic. Now I'm finding that even having received two new lights in the mail yesterday, they are somehow not quite as satisfying without the ability to further research and comment on them at CPF! Oh no.... CPF-aholism too?

Well, I will survive. Good luck with the site work. I'm sure the solutions will become apparent.
