Which battery charger should I get for the 10220 cells that power KuKu's 44DD?

    Thanks for your response.

managermr: The 60ma basic is perfect for kuku's excellent 44DD :-) $17 including all fees and delivery. All my other chargers are fine also, just make sure they have 90ma at the low setting. But if you are already sorted on li-ion chargers for your other cells you just need the 60ma basic.

Will Nimh mode allow selection of different charge rates?

The triple charger is still going strong but looks like I'm going to need a Nona!

bobjane: In a sort of fashion , yes. Nimh setting is rated at 360ma (but I need to test/confirm that) if you also switch on the lion setting it additionally add up to 70ma in steps of 10ma. At the end it will continue to 'trickle' charger the nimh cell on that setting. As this is about 0.2c that is not a bad thing though. If you don't want the trickle charge at the end you can leave it on the nimh setting of 360ma. Reminder that this isn't quite in production ;-) I need to make it easier to build.

I am sending $17 via PayPal for a basic 60ma charger.

What is the typical charge time for a 10220 cell?

    Thanks for your help

Would it be possible to have 2 Nimh settings - one for ~400ma and one for max or even 1000ma (for use with wall warts)? That way you can charge ~800mAh AAA and ~2000mAh AA at 0.5C.

I got my Nona charger this week and just tested it. That thing is great, really!

Thanks to the Voltmeter I don't have to use another device for that purpose anymore. Until now I only had the Nano charger and the basic charger from Cottonpickers. The Nano isn't easy to use as you need spacers, the basic charger is great for 10180, but it took an eternity of course for the 14250. The Nona charger can charge everything, you can use it on your computer or in your car, with an optional adapter also with home current.

I wouldn't want to miss this charger anymore! Btw, the built quality is also top notch...

I got some ideas for your future charger development I've been thinking about:

    1. charging cradle
    2. perhaps using small suction cups (probably resealed for air-tightness with silicone sealant or something) to allow the leads to stick to cells with the non-magnetic bottom plates
    3. ability to charge multiple batteries at once

    explanations:
#1: this could be irrelevant if you were able to implement #2. alternately, you could do a clamp/bracket style setup if someone REALLY wanted that. it'd be bulky, but it could be interesting. this is what comes to mind immediately, but a much smaller creation for the charger

#2: it seems the gold-plated (those I'm under the assumption are the non-magnetic ones, right? you mention in the OP that Redilast cells may have issues, and I know, or at least I'm pretty sure, that all the RL cells have that gold bottom plate, which is just like how Intl-Outdoors, Orbtronic, Callie's Kustoms cells are too) cells are becoming more prominent, so we ought to get some brainstorming going for a solution to those non-magnetic gold bottom plates/protection circuits.

#3: I realize you may be trying to stay in the 'regular' USB spec, so this may have to be limited to just two cells that can be charged at once, like, say, 2x outputs pumping 500 mA each, which would be roughly 1A all things being perfect. I don't think you'd need to have two separate charging level settings, but instead have the one level selector set at X mA and that's the output for both charging bays/leads for the two cells connected.

    Hi Cotton!

I need something that will charge a 10220 li ion cell and a 10180 li-ion cell. What is the best solution you have?
    Thanks!

tobrien: THANKS for the suggestions, which are genuinely appreciated. Most of my developments come from customer requests and ideas so I appreciate the it :-) I've tinkered with a cradle solution, and likely will go back to it again to develop. I just find that I have a million ideas to develop and no time to do any of them.

    Currently on my Lion radar:
*Getting NIMH setting 'productionised' on the Nona (tested working, but need to modify the case)
*Cradle Design for small cells (have a half solution here.. needs developing.. so it is on my radar and will get some attention)

But I'm also excited about solar projects I want to do:
    * 4x800ma folder with currents up to 24v (have all the parts, but slow to make)
    * Camera battery charger (have all the parts - should be easy)
    * iPad 1200ma charger (tested, looks to work well)
    * Mini iPhone/iPad charger (tested, looks to work well)
    * I'm currently developing a number of Raspberry Pi chargers

Tixx: Either a 60ma or 90ma basic charger would be ideal ($17 delivered) or if you prefer the display, go for the $32 single current set to 90ma. 60ma is softer on the cells and will help them retain their capacity but take a little longer to charge each time.

You're quite welcome!! Thanks for being so innovative

That's an amazing idea to make an iPad charger solar. I got an iPad 3 so if you need help testing it let me know and I'll send it back to you when done.

What's the charger? Is it with display (USA chip inside) or basic no display model (Chinese chip) I've never seen the USA chips more than .1% off 4.2v where the Chinese are 4.2 +/- 1% so it's quite off. If its a new cell even *fire should be ok. What size cell is it btw and what current setting. I ask that as the charger will stop at 1/10th of the rated current. So a high current charge rate on a small cell will not put in as much charge as a low current setting. Finally, is the DMM meter accurate? I should say I'd be happy to swap out the charger , just trying to understand first.

its the basic charger with 600ma,i've tested with 14500 "900"mah batteries,i will try to test it again tomorow with some keeppower 18650 3100mah,i've measured it with 2 meters but to be honest(one of them is FLUKE 8021 B Multimeter) but i dont know if they are correct or not (they both showed me 1,5v with alkalines).i will try another meter tomorow just to be sure.

nofearek9: Thanks. My hunch is a mix of low charging (4.2v -1%) so maybe stopping at 4.14v and the cell being a little small for 600ma - so when its taking on 60ma it stops charging leaving it not quite full. I'm guessing the 18650 will remove one of those issues (the small cell) and expose the end charging current which may be 4.13v or 4.14v -however let me know how the test goes.

If you charger doesn't meet the 4.2+/- 1% on the 18650 I will upgrade you to the USA version and send out.
