I never have shot IDPA but I have always thought about it. But same as some others im a little out in the sticks and dont want to have to travel when I can shoot in my back yard.

I watched some of the country's top IPSC competitors once at a regional match. The funny thing is that the top guys are so smooth that they don't always look fast.

Another time, I saw one of the top grandmasters demonstrate his draw and reload, both were about 1/2 sec. Although he did it dry, he was real smooth. It reminded me of WC Fields juggling cigar boxes -- no wasted movement.

I'm personally not that big of a fan of organized shooting events. I've never been all that competitive. I prefer a more lax and less structured environment. I do enjoy shooting clay pigeons and trap though. It's quite satisfying pulverizing a small target in the sky. Love the black cloud left behind.

I've done quite a few steel matches in the Los Angeles area. When I have time, I also do some IDPA competitions. I've also been to a couple of GSSF events and those were pretty cool. I've never gotten into the IPSC stuff, but I may give that a try some day.

I think some of my favorite matches were the 'tactical rimfire' steel matches we've done. Those were pretty fun with different obstacles & barriers, shooting cheap .22LR ammo all day at steel plates.

I love shooting, but depending on what I'm shooting the cost adds up really fast especially on rifle ammo. But I dont mind shooting a box of .22lr all day.

I participate in a lot of shooting competitions locally but i really don't do it for speed. I try to be "Most accurate" since my local club match has that award. Nonetheless it's a good way to work on weapon manipulation and a great way to put rounds down range versus just going to an indoor place and shooting in on lane.

I shoot USPSA (IPSC) when I get the chance. I really like the shooting on the move, but I also shoot steel challenge type matches. With family obligations I just don't shoot enough. Every time I start to improve enough to move up a class something takes me away for a time and my scores drop down again.

We are lucky here in Boise, Idaho, to have a very active shooting community and several excellent ranges within easy driving distance. Lots of organized events (IPDA, black powder cartridge, 3-gun, cowboy action, NRA high power, sporting clays, and so on) as well as plenty of hunting opportunities for us. I am more of a collector and amateur gunsmith than shooter; when I go to the range I am more likely to be function-testing some ancient restoration project than trying for maximum score.

We also have a very active automatic weapons collectors association in Idaho, which holds regular machine gun shoots during the warmer months. A few years ago, a buddy let me take a turn with his MG-42 (the infamous belt-fed German light machine gun from WW2) which left a smile on my face for days. Even better, it was his ammo not mine, since you go through a LOT of it! In theory the MG-42 runs at about 900 rounds per minute, even with a rate reducer. In practice that means you shoot very short bursts (3 to 6 rounds if you can manage it) to avoid overheating the barrel too quickly. Even then, you end up swapping the quick-change barrel every couple of belts. At the end of the evening, you literally shovel empty brass into plastic garbage cans to clean up the range!

Hey guys, my wife and i both shoot IPSC downunder. Sadly, following the changes to our laws back in 2002 ive really taken a little bit of a back seat as i had some really nice custom Standard Dev. pistols which had to be handed in and crushed because of their caliber - .40S&W.

Without special exemption in Australia now we are not allowed anything larger then .38" bore dia. So these days my wife and i both shoot Production Dev with some 9mm Glocks - G17A (The A's were made specially for Australia with barrel lengths which were 3mm longer then the standard G17's so they would pass the minimum barrel length requirements which were also bought in during the 2002 changes to the laws.

Oh yeah, I was big into trap shooting. I shot a few registered skeet matches, but I preferred trap. I shot quite a bit of sporting clays also.

My main shooting sport is hunting. Mainly using modern muzzleloaders for elk, deer, etc. I am building a few high performance muzzleloaders now. Woo Hoo!
