Maybe we should let him concentrate on the first version before we start asking for the second.
What a great day to be outside.
At this stage I'd be happy just to see some preliminary specs ........

I do wonder, since we've established that Skilhunt has stolen 4Seven's designs in the past, if Skilhunt's Ramble Iota line has any relation to 4Seven's E01 killer.
I'm really curious, what exactly defines "E01 killer"? I've seen that term thrown around way too much describing lights that are nothing at all like the E01. Shouldn't it mean something that beatsthe E01 at it's own game?
I have had a thread going on CPF which looks at what it would take for the E01 to be better than it is.I'm really curious, what exactly defines "E01 killer"? The general consensus comes down to these factors:
- Quick access to low-low mode (<1 lm) ** Perhaps access gained via a method similar to the ReVo, or LD01: ie, twist on for low, twist off-on for high **
- Change beam tint
Run times, 13 lumen output need to remain the same or very similar. An added bonus in my opinion would be to make the lightrun longer in regulation sun mode (currently it is 1.5v to ~1v), and have less 3 lm moon time that comes at the end of the battery's life (since we would now have access to a low low on demand).
If someone could make a 5mm LED light like this that remains just as bulletproof as the E01, then you would have the best backup EDC light ever created in my humble opinion.
The E01 is not about a being powerful, but more about being reliable. One of the best thing about it is that it can take a dead battery and fire up without a problem, where nothing else will even flicker. It is the light where batteries go to die, yet takes very little power to provide enough light to light up a path in front of you. It is useful, small, light weight, and bulletproof. It is a tough light to beat, but there are improvements that can still be made.
Still no newsMaybe we'll find out something in 2012 ?

How's this one going?
Please...
This AND a Preon?! My entire collection will soon be less than 3" high!!!
Alex
Cross post,
Then again, just maybe, the E01 killer will be the Preon Version 3 . . .

Another Christmas has come and gone, spent 100$ on fenix lights for gifts I would have liked to spend it at 4sevens.
Finally gave in and got a couple of E01's, they don't need fixing really. The 'wire wool' diffuser trick is nice though.
It's already 2012, SHOT show is coming up, maybe we'll get a look at the prototype then.
So,
fresh infos from the Shot Show announcement thread:
- AAA light
- very small
- current regulated
- Stainless steel
4 things a perfect keychain light is based of...
looking forward to 17. January
Sure hope it is $25 or less so they make good gifts.
Neutral or High CRI are my hopes.
The only thing is 4Sevens said this was not exactly the E01 killer but one of the prototypes derived from the original goal. He also said the specs are much higher than the E01 and it uses a power LED and is VERY price competitive. Sounds good no doubt, but still not the mythical E01 killer.
Sorry, doublepost.
Any news? Did the eo1 kill the eo1 killer:-)
What a great day to be outside.
IIRC, David hinted that what was designed to be the E01 killer was itself killed, but that many design and technical features were used in the Preon 0. Someone feel free to correct me if that's not the case.
Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.
The P0 is not the E01 killer, right?
I am puzzled by the silence here. I couldn't even find this thread.
P0 seems to be exactly what was requested herein. Granted price point could be debated. However the features appear to be just right.
Simple UI, limited modes, low-low and medium, compact, efficient,....
Am I missing something? Why are readers of this thread not excited????
I will get one for sure.

nope, it partly failed out the gate. for a light that should 'just work' it has IMHO a critical design flaw
the location and size of the IC prevents one of the most favored and common
rechargeable battery types to cause failures, mode skipping...etc.
it is a nice light and I wanted to buy 6 or more of them, but I cannot just gift them out as
the use of an eneloop (or other fat anode battery) can cause issues. they should have specified
a flatter type of smd chip called QFN or MLP (micro no-leads chips) or micro-leadframe package
this would have prevented all the issues with various battery types.

The E01 will never die because even though the P0 and other similarly sized lights offer smaller size or brightness or better tint i can still take my "dead" batteries out of a P0 or DQG and stick them in my e01 for hours and hours.
