4-15-2013- 16 vials available.
Hi everyone,
This is a continuation of the longstanding group buy thread for Norland 61. Unfortunately the original thread was lost the last time CPFMP went down for maintenance.
Norland61 is an optical grade adhesive that can be UV cured by direct sunlight and will dry crystal clear. It will also not yellow or fog with age. One milliliter should be more than enough adhesive for at least a half dozen typical trit installations. The Norland 61 has a guaranteed shelf life of ~4 months and can be used until it hardens completely. I have some that is currently over 15 months old and is still usable. If you keep it in a cool, dark place, it will extend the lifetime. Note- DO NOT STORE it in a fridge- store it between 5 and 25 °C (40 and 80 °F) and keep it dark.
One of the main advantages of using Norland for trit installation (or any other application) is that it will not set until you purposefully expose it to UV light, so you can take your time as you position the vial. Once you are ready, take the item out into direct sunlight and it should set within a few minutes and cure within an hour. Even on cloudy days, there is sufficient ambient UV light that the Norland will cure, though it will of course take longer. If you happen to have a UV light, the optimal wavelength for curing the adhesive is 365 nm light.
I conservatively estimate that 1 ml is enough for at least 10 trit installations. Take for example a Nitecore 2x8mm slotted piston.
The slot is 8mm x 2mm x 3mm, so you need 48 cubic mm to completely fill the slot. 1 ml is 1000 cubic mm, so you actually have enough for closer to 20 applications. If you take into account the volume that the tritium vial itself displaces, you can see that 1 ml is more than enough for a large number of trit installations.

NOTE- Each new bottle I purchase, will have a new expiration date. The expiration date in the pictures below were taken from the first bottle offered and no longer applies. If you store it properly, the Norland should last many months (maybe years) beyond its expiration date.

Standard Disclaimer: Seller assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged shipments. Use of adhesive is at your own risk.
Note- When you receive your vial, I would let it sit upright for a few minutes before opening to make sure the viscous liquid drains from the cap. Do not forget to keep the vial out of sunlight. Store in a cool, dark place (though not in the fridge) and it should store for at least a year, though Norland only guarantees a few months.
Here are the pics of the vials. The screw top plastic vials should handle shipping well.
Just in case, I am wrapping them in tissue paper and in a plastic ziplock type bag. If the vial breaks, the tissue should absorb the liquid and the baggie should contain it.
Included with each vial are two plastic transfer pipettes.
You can actually cut the bulb off of the transfer pipettes and then use them as a tip on a syringe. I find that it provides much more control over the amount of liquid delivered.
