I'll have some money in my paypal by the middle of next week. Need 2 know if you'll have another 6 box for the 18650's or not ($30.00 if I remember correctly). Please let me know when you log on again. Also curious as to whether you have male to male ends for 12V? Thank you.

XCalibre: Sorry for lack of response, hadn't realised there were Q's waiting a response...... I do have another 6 cell 18650, If you are interested in additional panels, I can make up a panel with connector to add to any existing panel to increase the current (would double the USB current of one of your existing panels.) PM me if you after one and I'll work out a price. Unfortunately I don't have a male-male lead but I think they likely may be readily available 2.1/5.5mm I think is the spec. IF you can find a male-male lead of that dimension I will confirm its correct, but think so. I do have a nimh box also (10$) which can 'store' energy in 4 cells and power usb devices later. Unless ordered with other items I need to add $5 on the 18650 boxes to cover postage (I basically resell them at cost)

    Just curious,
Today I was just trying out to charge my ipad. It seems that it could only work during sunny day but not overcast (kinda heavy overcast though). What's the minimum amperage for charging ipad anyway ?

They have a box that holds 4 of the 18650's and a box that holds 6 of the 18650's. The weight isn't that much at all. I don't have scales to weigh them, but they are very light.

    Hi arteson

I have the 4 cell box.
By my little kitchen scales, the box alone is approximately 80g.
The four Panasonic NCR18650A cells (3100mAH) I have in it add another 190g for a total of 270g. (9.5oz)

You can do the math for the 6 cell version.

    Cheers

    Hi all,
I took some time to go through the different posts, really interesting stuff,...

The foldable panel looks great, I'd like to use it on a bicycle trip to charge my electronic equipement. In addition to the cell phone and some NiMh cells which I guess will work fine with the foldable panel, I would like to charge a battery pack with 2 li-ion cells in it (7.4v) and I don't find a portable charger for it that may work from the output of the foldable panel (12v or usb). Do you guys know something that may work for that?

The 6 cell 18650 box also interests me due to the 12v output (always in mind to charge the 2 cell battery pack if I find a portable charger...)

    Thanks!

fabienne: I'd guess less than about 300ma-400ma and the iPad wouldn't charge (my guess though) Certainly solar cells generate much much less when out of direct sun - in the order of 90% less, so that would make sense.

Areteson: Is the pack sealed? just wondering if there was a way to 'tap' in to the 2 cells separately. If there were you could much more easily charge it.

Just out of curiosity artesan, what is the 7.2V pack used in? I found online a 12V car charger kit for my Olympus BLM1 7.2V pack, even though Olympus don't make one themselves.

Hi there, am an Aussie that uses the 18650 batteries for all our torches, some are not protected, what is the best system for charging these for long power outages or when camping, will these panels you sell keep a Laptop charged? how do I go about purchasing these items from you, have a PayPal account
Thanks in advance, a new poster

If you are camping then a solar panel is great and also doubles for power outages. If I were backpacking I'd suggest a 450ma ($39) or 700ma ($49) package as they are smaller and therefore stonger in a backpack.

If you have a car, then a 1000ma panel makes more sense as you get a bit more juice out of the panel and size isn't so much of a problem. None of the single panels will charge a laptop. The folder ($139) does charge my eeepc, my iPad or my Dell laptop (using a car charger for the dell and eepc but plugged in to the folding solar panel)

If you mainly charge li-ions then a 1000ma panel is good compromise for cost. It has 2 usb ports, so you could charge a li-ion cell at 700ma on one port and top up your phone on the other.

Thanks for prompt response, how do I go about ordering and paying for the larger system, have a 4x4 that will be used for getting to our areas for camping, would this setup have the storage for the 18650 batteries? instead of the 240v we already have
Thanks once again, will organise payment as soon as have details
    Thanks

It took a few months to scrap the funds together but here we go... An XL with a single port, NIMH charger, set of croc and mag leads, and a triple with display (90/320/700ma{620ma if 700 isn't possible}). This setup will be used to charge 10180's, IMR 18350's, 18650's, and maybe 26650's. Sound good? Is this still $74 shipped to the USA?

Waz: If its the 1000ma panel with 2 ports and a 2 chargers , just use paypal to send $60 to and ideally put some detail in the 'notes' field. EG. 1000ma panel; 700ma lion charger, Waz on cpfm. If you want you can also post here, and I'll reply here when its in the post. (you can also look in paypal where it should say when it was posted) hope this helps!

diablo: Sounds good to me - I can do 90/320/700 no problem. Its taking me a couple days to make stuff up, so posting would likely be Monday.

    Many thanks
If it's ok and this system works as well as I am expecting it to, can I refer a cpl of friends, and Son In Law to buy from you, gave them Torches etc with the 18650 batteries, we had a big storm here and Power was out for a while and they finally understand now why I have been pushing Solar and preparedness
    Thanks again

Hi, it sure did and its perfect for testing . So far I've got a standard lead and can charge it from the mains. Its due to rain in the uk tomorrow but I hope to get the panels ready with resistors for testing at the weekend. I *really * appreciate the phone as this should let me nail the charging resistors. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm excited!

Do you have a charger for RCR123 or 18650 that would charge from a Joos Orange solar panel. I am a newbie so apologies if this is not an appropriate question.

    Thanks

Mr2blue: all my chargers will work, but likely Theideal charger is a non display model. I can do a 450ma unit for $17 delivered which would match well to the cells and the charger.

David, So any thought to building more higher capacity 5v/12v solar chargers, like your last folding model? Or even higher capacity? Really interesteded :-)

Edvpt: OK, so here's the latest ;-)...... Thanks to your loan of the iphone I have worked out why my panels wouldn't work with the Apple stuff.... Seems the voltage is a little too high for them and (need to confirm this last bit) resistors I was using weren't correct. Following todays time in the limited sun, and with my DMM, I've now come up with what I hope will be a near perfect solution for Apple stuff :woohoo: By putting in a small 4xAA pack on the back of the panels it creates a 'buffer' for the panel allowing Apple stuff to work correctly with the resistors in place. The iPhone (3?) you sent me charges at a healthy 700ma and I've now tested on an iPad3 which gets 1200ma charging. This (I should note!) is with the 4xAA pack on a 1000ma solar panel. I'm about to start the folders tonight, but it will be a very slow steady build (I got a bit burnt out last time) I have enough panels to make 5 sets of folders. A few people (you are one) have first call on these.

I have on order some monocrystalline panels for future 'folders' which will allow me to increase the current from just over 800ma to just over 900ma on future folders. I also *will* be making a double capacity model (4x900ma panels) but only once some standard ones are completed first.

Now I know how to sort the Apple thing, I need to decide if I should add a permanent 4xAA cell box on the folders to allow all the ports to be Apple or perhaps a 'tap' to allow people to plug in a 4xAA box. Currently only the 12v one is capable of charging iphones and ipads. Thoughts?

Nice to have a succesful day!

David, that beat iPhone is yours to keep, no need to return, I've moved on..

I would make the 4xAA Pack an option at extra cost or maybe a seperate IOS edition. I'm certainly interested in charging iPhones and iPads along with my batteries and I'm willing to pay extra for that capability but that may not be the case for everyone.

4x900ma! Bring on the apocalypse... Let us know if that becomes reality, I know I'm intrigued and interested.
