Selfbuilt review of the SR90: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...d.php?t=272521

Welcome to a new era in LED technology. Leading the way is the Olight SR90 - a solid state LED flashlight that's considerably brighter than a car headlight - and which travels further. This is the first LED light we've ever seen which plays in the same league as an HID for output but the SR90 has an advantage in that it offers instant, 100% output, which allows it to strobe, and a much cleaner, smoother beam profile.

Primary applications include; Military, Tactical, Police, Security Guard & Patrol, Search & Rescue, Camping, Fishing, Land and Marine Navigation, Customs & Border Patrol, Crime Scene Lighting, Aircraft Maintenance & Marine Interdiction

    Specifications:

    •Utilizes Luminus SST-90 LED, 30W, lifetime 60,000 hours.
•Output & Runtime: Two brightness levels and strobe mode

*Four indicators on the tail for indicating the batteries condition:
    (1). 1 indicator on: 20% -40% power remains
    (2). 2 indicators on: 40% -60% power remains
    (3). 3 indicators on: 60% -80% power remains
    (4). 4 indicators on: 85%+ power remains
(5). No indicators on means batteries with less than 20% power remains and need charging

    Two charging options:
    (1). Completed Flashlight
    (2). Battery tube section only.

    FAQ:
Spare battery packs they're going to be $110.00.

    Matt,

Your site says shipping 3/15/2010. Is this correct??

Any idea on how much a replacement battery/handle will cost and when it may be available?

Quick question: why the discrepancy between runtimes in the post and in the picture?

How is the UI operated. Is it the button on the tail cap? Does it have memory or does it always start on a specific level?

This light runs on a proprietary rechargeable battery pack which is included with the light. The charger is also included with the light.

Not sure - one set is on the pcis, the other was in the release docs. Setting to the more conservative numbers until I hear otherwise.

    Should be ~6500K

No, corrected to 2/15. The factory is aiming to ship them out to us on 2/6 so that's a bit conservative at this point.
I do not have the costs yet for additional battery packs.

    Side button with memory.
Double click from off for strobe.
Press once for high or low, press again and hold to switch levels.

I wonder why they didn't include more brightness levels. It seems one disadvantage of HID is that it is all or nothing.

700 lumens is one heck of a 'Low'! :-)

Wow - that's impressive. I'm really really tempted but it is expensive and I"m really curious what other makers are going to put out in terms of the sst-90 lights in the near future. I think I'm gonna have to wait to read some reviews and compare what else comes out this year. (at least I'll use that as my excuse for not buying one instead of just saying my wife will kill me if I drop almost $500 Can on a flashlight... )

That is very disappointing. I was hoping for a super search light that could also provide low level emergency lighting for days with that huge battery pack. Is there something inherent in the SST-90 that prevents this? This may be a deal breaker for me.

It's a tough one this as I really wanted it but the price IMO is too high for me to spend on a Mass-manufactured single LED light. That said this is probably the most exciting mass produced single led that I've seen for some time and has some nice features! I am not saying it is overpriced or that others should be discouraged from buying it as I'm sure for some it will be well worth the price

Before I buy, I'm curious about the charger and battery interface. Is this a balancing type setup? Only capable of being charged by this charger? Tell us what you know.

    Yes - HA-III = Hard Anodized.
IPX-68 says it's rated for immersion but doesn't, in this case, specify a depth or timeframe. For now we'll call it weather and puddleproof. It is not a depth rated dive light.

This is a search and rescue light. Umpteen output levels would have just cr@pped up the UI needlessly. If you need a lower low use a different light - we sell hundreds of lights with super low lows that can run for days. This light is built properly which is to say that it serves a market need and is not trying to be everything to everyone; a product by committee which serves no real purpose.

Hammer Train - That makes no sense. First of all these are very limited availability and are all hand assembled so what makes them, 'mass manufactured' ?
Why is the price 'too high,' even if they were 'mass manufactured?'
Product cost is a function of materials cost, design/tooling costs, assembly costs, marketing costs, etc - I think $400 is a raging bargain for a light with this much technology.

Not to be mean or rude and I don't want to offend but it seems somewhat snobbish to dismiss it as 'too expensive for a mass manufactured light' when it is neither mass produced or very expensive given it's capability.

Balanced setup. It includes the charger so I don't quite understand the question about using other chargers....

Just curious as to what type of connectors are used on the charger and battery. Many of us with balancing hobby chargers have the capability to plug them into our computers via USB and make some pretty graphs to keep track of the battery pack's health.

It's not a deal breaker, just curious. All I see is a rubber plug where the connector is on the body and there is no picture of the charger or jack on it.

    Awesome light though.

It's one of those barrel type connectors.

USB couldn't move enough current to charge a pack this big very quickly...about 16 hours assuming you have USB 2.0 and .7Ah output.

Ahh so the charger just supplies the power and somewhere in the body or head is the circuit to balance charge the pack.

The usb jack on my hobby charger isn't for charging, it's for hooking up to a computer to download data.

    What?
No disrespect, celler, but there are probably 100`s of lights offering days-and-days of runtime on low- this HUGE light would be.....heavy....to care for longer periods of time..
The Olight SR90 is in fact in the same league as HID lights. How many would appreciate HID`s with very-low output (say 50 lumens) and days of runtime? Probably NONE!

    I LOVE this light
700 lumens for 6 hours...Incredible! AFAIK, no other lights can deliver so much light for such a long time.
I think the grip looks really nice too. The battery indicator is very practical. And- not to mention the THROW!!!

If there are any plans for a passaround, please sign me up. I have some money budgeted for a big, bright searchlight, but before I commit I would like to see it in person to be sure of size and beam quality. The beam looks awfully blue in those pictures, but the throw looks good. As others have said, it's a lot of money to invest for something I can't evaluate beforehand. Will a sample be sent out to someone like Selfbuilt for a full review?
