This light looks great, but I think I'll wait for a clip and a smooth optic before I buy it. I don't like holsters, and this seems to be a reasonable size to clip in a pants pocket, as long as the pants aren't super tight.

An aspheric lens might be a workable alternative to a smooth reflector. It sounds like this led has a very large die though, so getting maximum throw from a small package may not be easy.

Hello. I just bought your D-mini VX Ultra.

I am really not that impressed with it. I thought being more than twice the lumens of my Fenix TK11 R2 it would be a lot brighter.

The Fenix is a much better thrower. It does not seem like it is really brighter even on high. Are you going to come out with a teleforce kit for this model soon?

I need to know if I should wait or send it back.

1. The Lumens out is not direct proportional to Lux readings. To double the Lux readings, it needs 4X of Lumens out.

2. D-mini VX Ultra offers a larger hotspot and means a Flood beam.

3. A Tele-Force with similar diameter won't increase the Throw by much but a Turbo-Force does.

Refer to Turbo-Force, our engineering team will have more info. to me in the coming weeks.

And I will post any updates here when done.

Huh? Everything else being equal, the illuminance is directly proportional to the luminous flux. One lux is by definition one lumen per square meter so if you double the lumens you also double the lux readings...

Well, no. The inverse-square law in the equations should be related to the distance, not the luminous flux. With the same distance and the same viewing angle, the lux reading is directly proportional to the emitted lumens (and vice versa): lux=lumens/area.

It is actually quite logical. Lumens represent the "amount of visible light" emitted and lux tell "how intense" is the light in the particular area. If your source starts to emit "twice as much light", you will have twice the intensity over a particular area. It has to be that way - you emit twice the amount of photons so with everything else being equal you see twice as much of them reflected. On the other hand, if you keep the flux constant and move the light source doubling the distance, the emitted light will shine over four times larger area, giving you four times lower intensity.

Ah, ok. There is a rule of thumb (part of the Stevens' power law) that says exactly that. It doesn't describe the relation between lumens and lux though, only subjective human perception. It is not really precise but in general it is true - you need to have four times the lumens (or lux) to perceive the light as two times as bright.

To double the "apparent brightness" needs 4X of Lumens out.

Quite complex for me.

Yeah, lumens and lux are simple physical terms (although weighted by the sensitivity of the human eye). Subjective perception and psychophysics in general can be much more complicated

got my ultra this morning. i was wasn't expecting the light to be that small, then i turned it on. i wasn't sure what to expect for output, as to just getting a mentor mt-e and i hoped for a little more of a intense light with that one. but i'm very happy with the ultra's output. i didn't expect to see that much light from that sized light and that was with what ever charge was in the batteries i purchased with the light(they are on the charger as i type). i'm looking forward to playing/checking out this light more tomorrow.

The half-press means "Press and Release"
Do not press to end as this will lock it on.

Once you figure out the process, it will be very easy to operate with.

The D-mini VX Ultra with max. current feed to LED as 2.2A.
With a full charged Li-ion battery (4.2V), the current draw at battery is normal in your case.

Here’s a question. At what range will the hotspot on a VX be brighter than the hotspot on a VX Ultra. I can’t decide which to get but I want the one that will put the most light on a particular spot about 40 feet away.
If the ultra will be brighter at centre beam at 40 feet, I’ll get that. If the VX B is brighter, I’ll plumb for that one.
