Attention : These IMR cells have much lower internal resistance than regular LiIon 3.7V cells and they may end up with a higher ending voltage when charged in certain chargers ( especially older version WF-139 charger ). Please check the voltage of them right out of the charger to see if they are above 4.20V when fully charged with your charger. Overcharging above 4.25V may shorten life/cycles. Above 4.50V may even pop them or making them leak. DO NOT use the charger if it seems to overcharge IMR cells.

Yes, with the button top, they measure 50mm and they are commonly called 18500 instead of 18490.

    Hi AW.
Thank you for making these cells available to us. I would like to take the opportuity to reinforce the sentiment of previous posters - it would be excellent if this chemistry was offered in sizes where protection circuits are difficult or impossible.
Personally, I would appreciate 10440 cells - not only are there none with effective protection circuits, but most AAA lights run in direct drive when used with 10440 cells, leading to very high current draw approaching 5C. Even the Liteflux LF2X overdrives the usual cells, drawing upwards of 900mA at 100%. The LumaPower Avenger is the exception to the rule, but lacks over discharge protection.
In short - IMR 10440s would offer better performance than the current alternative at the typically high currents involved, and above all they would offer a degree of security that 10440 users simply cannot achieve any other way.
You'd do a Good Deed, and hopefully do some brisk business as well.

Do you have an idea of the price yet for the 26500 cells? I think I need at least 5 of these once they are in stock.

Hello AW. A few questions regarding your new IMRs. Firstly, I assume 16340 is CR123a sized? Secondly, I have a WF-139 charger that I purchased from 4sevens in august. Will I be able to charge the cell in this charger, and is it new enough to prevent over charging? Thanks a lot.

brunt_sp, peterthomson : Orders shipped. Thanks!

    EntropyQ3 : No plans for IMR10440 yet.

KiwiMark : Don't have a firm price yet but they 'll be about 30% cheaper than the protected C cells.

m16a : You 'll have to try to see if the ending voltage of the fully charged cells exceeds 4.2V to be sure.

aeroflash : Order received. Will ship tomorrow. Thanks!

    Default Too much power...now what?

I have a problem relating to these batteries that I'm hoping someone in this IMR interest thread can help me solve before I order more of them.

I have 4 torches that are made to fit 2 C-sized batteries. All four are direct driving MC-E emitters wired in 2-series, 2 or 6-parallel depending on the torch and total number of emitters, (all Vf ~7.4V).

I currently have 2 IMR 18650 batteries. At first the 2 IMR batteries in series seemed to be perfectly mated to direct driving 3 MC-E emitters in 6p2s. Output was incredible to say the least.

I've really been looking forward to filling each of these torches with 2 IMR 26500 sized batteries as soon as they become available. I've even bought a 2A Li "C" charger in anticipation.

Unfortunately, my initial testing was on two IMR cells that were fairly depleted from testing wtih Xenon bulbs. Now that I have fully charged the IMR batteries (a few cycles), they just don't sag enough. Even on the 2s6p (3xMC-E) torches, the tint of the emitters begin to turn blue after only a few seconds, indicating too much power. (Lack of adequate heatsinking is definitely not the issue.) This is the case until the IMRs measure ~3.7v at rest, well below a full charge.

Without availability of a 7.4v output regulator in 17mm (for the 2p2s torches) or capable of up to 4.5A (for the 6p2s torches), I'm left scratching my head, wondering what amount of resistance is appropriate to add here. I suggest resistance becuase I assume that resistance is the reason that a single MC-E torch I have that's wired 1S4P doesn't shift it's tint toward blue when directly driven off of one of the fully charged 18650 IMR batteries. I would prefer a more elegant solution than adding resistors, if an affordable one exists.

Still eager to use more IMR batteries, especially C-sized, I'm curious to know what everyone else's specific plans are for them. For example, how do you plan to handle the additional current and lack of sag under load, without regulating output down to a point that would make the IMR difference ineffective?
