Full disclosure: I know NOTHING about these gun rails... but I have an X200 and would like to use some sections of picatinny rail to mount it for various uses. Anybody have a good source for it? I see all kinds of fancy, way expensive lengths of it offered at online gun retailers. I can't understand all the fancy jargon though, and I need NOTHING fancy. Just the basic rail shape that I can modify for my needs.

If anybody has some they'd like to sell, or if anybody can point me to a good source, I'd be greatful! Thanks.

Can you post a pic? My son has several "air soft rifiles" the have some kind of "Rails" he often takes stuff apart and if you are not mounting to a real rifle I may have something that would work---for free of course not trying to sell you a part off a broken err modifed plastic gun.

Hey Darell, where did you get the one on the picture?
Did you drill it yourself?
I want one of these on my bike!

OK The one you posted has one slot (lack of proper term) the one I can snag is plastic much longer and has a slot maybe every half inch or so. In the event you do not find what you want then PM your addy and I will send you a rail first chance I get. My work hours lately have me up at 3:30 AM to be good to go at five so it may be a Saturday afternoon before I can send it; no charge as I already stated.

That piece came from a friend - a friend who has no more and doesn't know where this came from! Some holes were factory, some are mine. This isn't the first time I've mounted it up! Pretty sexy CNC QR bike mount, eh?

Topper -

Hec, the more slots the better. Makes no difference. This one had none, and the slot was milled into it so it could be used for the X200. The metal stuff for guns that I've seen for sale seem to have those slots all the way along it like you mention.

PM on the way. Thanks!

Let me guess, the other one on your link also comes from that same friend who cannot recall its origin... :( Bummer.
Hey if you ever find another source for them, throw something hard at me!

I only own the ONE piece of rail. Same piece on both setups. The whole mount thing has evolved, but I still only have that once piece - thus my plea.

Darell,

There are lots of Picatinny rails out there. Just go to a gun/hunting/optics website and you should be able to find what you are looking for.

example: At Cabelas, thay have a Leupold aluminum base for $9.99 if you don't need/want/care about the full length pattern of cross slots.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp;jsessionid=BTBFKOKIGBSFPTQSNOLSCNOOCJVYQI WE?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20712&id=0024503711880a&navCount=2&podId=0024503&parentId=cat20758&navAction=push&catalogCode=IF&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20758&hasJS=true

If you want fancy steel (plain or stainless) look at

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp;jsessionid=BTBFKOKIGBSFPTQSNOLSCNOOCJV YQIWE?rid=&indexId=cat20758&navAction=push&navCount=7&cmCat=MainCatcat20712&parentType=index&parentId=cat20758&id=0031514

Want another site? Try http://www.riflescopes.com

Don't care about the cross slots at all? Look for a plain Weaver base (the angles and size are the same, the dimension difference from a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail is in the cross slot widths and spacing).

Wasabe - No... don't even know what that means. I don't know the first thing about guns (or did that comment seem unneccessary?) :)

Moon - Awesome! I do my own search, and the cheapest I come up with is $50 (as in your second link - $99). The first Cabella's link looks awesome. I think I'll get me some of that. Thanks! Edit: Uh-oh. But now I see I have to choose which gun it goes on?! :help: What the hell's the difference? Just mounting holes or something?

I can't even find the stuff in the final link. Honestly, I don't even know what to search on!

Hey ManCow,

SF has a Model M58 Mount (http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main.pl?pgm=co_disp&func=displ&strfnbr=6&prrfnbr=821&sesent=0,0) that will work for you and it even has the underside of the rail feathered away which could go forward. I gotone and it fits the X200 but the "U" latch is sloppy. Probably better with the other latch. At any rate you can make it work, no problem.

Darell,

Yes, the difference between the mounts for different guns is pretty much just the mounting hole pattern and the underside contour.

OK, since you don't know guns, I'll just do highlights here. The thing you want is a called a scope mount or just mount or base. There are many, many different ways of attaching a rifle scope, or other optical sight system, to a gun. Almost every different scope maker has their own unique and proprietary way of getting the scope attached to the gun. The mount attaches to the gun, then a set of rings attaches to the mount, and the scope is held in the rings.

The mount you want is called a Weaver mount (the Weaver company started that design). A modification of the Weaver mount is the Picatinny rail, the dovetail angles and dimensions are the same, but as I said before, the call out for the cross slots is slightly different between the two. The Picatinny rail is a current 'favorite' among the TacticalCrowd (real and armchair). The Picatinny rail cross slots help in the tactical world because they give another solid stop to help keep things from sliding around or moving when Murphy shows up and the other guy is shooting at you, and the multiple slots let you position things the way you want/need.

You might be able to get a two piece Weaver base/mount, and then you two bases to attach to your QD handlebar adapters. A one-piece base is longer so that the front and back scope rings can attach to the same hunk-o-metal, about 5 inches long or so usually.

Here, try this one instead. You'll have to drill the mounting holes yourself and it doesn't look like there are any cross slots. Made of aluminum and 10 inches long.

or here it is with a flat base and a taller 'bottom'

Want it in nylon instead of aluminum, and full Picatinny rail cross-slots?

You guys are awesome!

Thanks to Moon, especially, for taking all the time to explain this stuff to me! And thanks to everybody for lending a hand. Looks like I have plenty of options. Sometimes a bit of hand-holding is just the ticket!
