so is the only reason for an accessory tailcap to have removeable crenelations, or is it to add a different set of outputs/features.

Crenelations is the main reason for the discussion but changing the output levels is something that's also been discussed.

Matt,

Received my M30 today. You guys are still the fastest shipping I've had from any light dealer, and I appreciate it.

I'm loving the M30. I have no problem with the interface and use it one-handed with ease. My eyes see no PWM flicker at all. And it's plenty bright!

Thanks again for the great service.

:D

as an owner i got to say the option to not have crenelations isnt worth my money, but another set of outputs along with that would be enough to purchase an accessory tailcap. i think having a 200+ lumen mode would be a good idea. also i hate toggling through stobe, having an instant stobe button on the side is enough for me. i understand this is a tactical light, and as a tactical light the M30 is good as is. if a new tailswitch is in the books it should be aimed at the non-tactical owners who bought this light not to go on raids, but to have a 700 lumen multi-output light and as a sign of brand loyalty.

I don't think it works like that - I think the tailcap switching circuitry is tied to the circuitry in the bezel in such a way that it's not as simple as a 'reprogrammed' tailcap to change available levels/modes, etc. The non-crenelated tailcap development is largely going to be driven by LEO demand for the option.

As long as you don't want a lower low or a higher high, I believe it is possible to change levels/modes/UI with a reprogramming of the tailcap.

I agree with this completely. I LOVE the M30... but my *only* complaint right now (I don't notice the PWM) is the fact that I have to switch beyond the strobe to get back to low mode. This is very annoying.

I love having instant strobe access from the button.. but I think that is enough as said above.

If a new tailcap comes out - I'd love to see just the option of low, med, hi !

I already have an email in to the factory about this but, as you must know, it's the Dragon Boat Festival in most of Asia right now so no one is working...

+1 on this. This would be my only complaint about an otherwise perfect light.

You guys have no idea how many emails were exchange on this topic during the product development. :)

eh, tell them not to worry about redesigning the tailcap and to start working on a 1000+ lumen M35.

heh - not a problem as soon as we can get 150+ L/W multi die LED's.

Don't worry Matt - the sheer fact that you are here representing the product and showing your concern for us, the buyers, makes me want to support most lights regardless of any "flaws".

That said - the M30 to me, is almost a near perfect light. I love it.

Hey, I'll take a 'near perfect' score on this from the CPF crowd, that equals 'OMG THAT'S AMAZING' in the rest of the world. :)

Heh so true. Sure I'd prefer no PWM, sure I'd prefer 3 settings from the button with no strobe, but all in all this is a fantastic light. Great size options, small head, great output and instant strobe, plus memory.

Best household light that I have owned to date.

Hey Matt, some of us are still waiting for that pressure switch on the M30. Will it arrive anytime soon?

I assume M30 is suitable for shotgun mounting?

matt, do you know if the titanuim innovation double and triple packs fit in the battery magazine for the m20 and m30, or do you have to unwrap them. or even better, do you not have to use the battery magazine if using one of those packs?

MattK
08-02-2009, 04:09 PM
I think they'll fit in the magazine but will have to confirm.

You never HAVE to use the battery magazine with the M20 or M30 it's there for those for whom stealth is at a premium, or for quicker battery changes (especially in the dark) - you really have to shake the light to make the batteries rattle.

MattK

So we tried the Titanium Innovations double and triple packs today with the M20 and M30 battery magazines and they fit but they're tight, particularly the with the M20's/doubles. I would recommend hitting the interior of the magazine with fine sandpaper or of one those automotive scotch brite pads. Alternatively you could prep the double/triple packs with a layer of tape pretty effectively too.
