This is how you change the supplied momentary on off twist on and twist off switch to the reverse clickie switch.
Inside the momentary on off twist on and off switch.
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/3944/dsc03993smallae0.jpg
Push out the switch through the rear. (I pushed on the rubber switch cover.)
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/3166/dsc03994smallrq0.jpg
There is another piece inside the switch. Note the 2 notches.
http://img302.imageshack.us/img302/4956/dsc03996smalldl5.jpg
I use a pick and put it in one of the notches. Remember righty tighty lefty loosey. Turn lefty loosey, counter-clockwise.
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/8963/dsc04000smallpq5.jpg
The plastic assembly comes out with the rubbers witch cover.
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/6528/dsc04001smallrr2.jpg
Now you can change the black rubber switch cover to the GID or leave the black rubber switch cover in. I opted for the GID.
http://img302.imageshack.us/img302/6789/dsc04002smallwo1.jpg
Put the reverse clickie switch in. Righty tighty, turn clock-wise.
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/526/dsc04003smalljr7.jpg
I use my pick to tighten the switch.
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/5268/dsc04005smalley4.jpg
Now it's time to enjoy your D-Mini!

I just received a D-Mini, as pictured above. I already had one of the bare silver D-Mini's that I really love. Comparing the two, with the smooth reflector in both, the Bare Silver version has a significantly better hotspot. It is much cleaner, well defined, and noticeably brighter.
My question is, could this just be random variations, or is the Bare Silver version hand selected to produce a superior beam to the regular version??

Hi Free,
Thank you for supporting.
We do constant forward current to LED, but each LED carries different forward voltage which cause the variations.
Besides, color temperature, XR-E's primary optic centering...also affect brightness and hotspot.

Hello all, new to the forum, new to flashlights in general (only ever brought them from the local supermarket) but been following this thread for about a month.
Interested in getting this light to replace my trusty 4 d-cell maglite but have a few questions if anyone is inclined.
I read in one of the earlier posts that the d-65 production was being held up so they could be anodised with the d-mini to obtain a uniform colour. To me, this implies that there may be some "all in one" kit with all the bits and pieces (bodies, reflecters, clickies). Is this a fair assumption.
If so, how does one get on a pre-order list or whatever it may be called and does anybody have any idea on anticipated cost or when they will be available.
Also, the d-65 body, what will that add to the length of the d-mini ? I figure about 35mm.
And lastly, if I'm not pushing my luck, I notice the knurling of the normal d-mini body is raised though in the drawings from an earlier post of the d65 body, the height of the knurling is not obvious. Would it be fair to assume that the knurling will be raised the same height.
Many thanks and if this is not the right place to ask these question, sorry.
Paul

Hi Pauly_T,
You don't need to place pre-order.
We have send ES out for customer's evaluation, and we will make announcement for the all-in-one packages at here.
The knurling will be raised 1mm at both side means same as original diameter as you want.
So, please wait a while.
Best regards.

Thanks for the reply and I'll practice my patience though I am very keen to get ahold of an "all in one" kit.

Yikes...great description but looks so complicated. I thought I could just unscrew one tube and screw in another.
I guess the 18650 tube is a "permanent" change...looks too complicated to change back and forth.
Too bad :(

It is very easy to change. I've heard that the later versions aren't glued which would make it very easy.
All you have to do is unscrew the Cree Module from the CR123 and install in the 18650 battery tube. The only difference is the 18650 battery tube needs a spacer to make contact with the battery.

i've been using a very nicely made custom 18650 tube on my D-mini for several weeks now. very nice improvement in burntime.
it is (or was, and perhaps still is???) available from Fenix-Store.com.
nothing more involved than unscrewing the head and tailcap off of the standard CR123A D-mini tube/barrel and screwing them both onto the custom 18650 tube. Even a klutz like me could manage that!!!
personally, i still consider the D-mini w/18650 tube "pocketable", but on the upper limits of "pocketability".
of course, this assessment is coming from someone who has from time to time EDC'd a SF U2 - just to put my comments in perspective.
I don't see the point. The advantage of the D-Mini, is that it is, well, Mini. Otherwise, I think one should get the MRV, which is absolutely beautiful. :)

all true.
however, there just might be a compelling reason for some to do so.
1. smaller size of D-mini vs. MRV might just fit the bill for some (an EDC???).
2. i haven't seen any numbers to verify the following, but given the lower light output of the D-mini v. MRV, it just might(???) be true: perhaps??? a tad longer burntime from the D-mini with 18650 than the MRV with 18650. if this is true, it might form a compelling reason for some users.
3. lastly, and perhaps most importantly for a percentage of the CPF/CPFMP segment, less cash outlay to upgrade the D-mini to 18650 than it would be to purchase an entire new MRV when one already owns a D-mini.
just a few thoughts. YMMV, and it sounds like it does.

Thanks Ricky very much. I got my D-65 tube ES sample. I have a few comments to this ES tube.
I followed Ricky’s direction to screw in the spacer and the D-mini didn’t light up. Finally, I had to remove the LED module rubber washer in order to be able to make contact. I don’t understand why it needs the spacer. The only reason I can think of is the tube was manufactured in the wrong specification. It seems the tube was made too long and it needs the spacer to make contact. I hope the production one will not need any spacer. The spacer increase unnecessary length.
Other than that, I really love the tube. It surely increase the run time and still is pocketable.
I like the D-mini with the D-65 tube more than my MRV. MRV is too heavy and bulky compare to the D-mini with D-65 tube. For me the MRV has very limit use.
Of course this is only my own opinion. All products from Lumapower are high quality and I love them all.

Hi Luckybobo,
The extra screw-in pieces are necessary to handle all types 18650 batteries even flat tops.
Please note that others without the above design did not have these features.

With a little soldering, yes - you'd have to put the emitter on the engine yourself. I don't think it's necessarily appropriate to discuss this in this particular thread though, you may want to PM Ricky if you're interested in getting a "blank" D-mini or light engine. I'd rather encourage people to buy the "new" version they're going to release, to make sure that LP's devotion to constant improvement is rewarded.

As I understand it, updated LP lights are in the works now. The M1-R is the update of the M1 Hunter, and other lights should follow. Don't ask about emitter binning because Ricky can't tell us, but he did mention that they were taking into account both efficiency and tint. That leads me to believe they'll use either a Q2 or Q4, but I have nothing to back that up with. The body tube will probably be available a la carte or in a package. My guess is, eventually you'll probably be able to buy a D-mini w/18650 body tube, OP reflector, and tactical forward clicky.

Hi Ricky, I received the D-65 battery tube today and the package included a black spacer and o-rings. Is the black spacer supposed to have a metal contact in the center to extend the contact? Mine does not and it was not in the package.
If there is supposed to be a contact, it could be shipped with my Avenger if it hasn't shipped yet.
