MRV's optical update : 16-May-2007

Refer to MRV's reflector design, we do make bit changes at focus point.

So, the hotspot will be a bit larger that the ES (Engineering Sample) and offer more side spills.
The ES's hotspot is smaller than that of D-Mini, but now larger in size.

The Total output remains unchange unless newer offer from LED supplier.

On the other hand, the 1 meter Lux reading will then decrease to 10,000 plus.
This results the maxium throw decrease with 2-5 meters.

Thanks and best rgds.

What is the difference between the tactical switch and the clicky switch? Is one a momentary on with latching upon pushing harder (not a reverse clicky) or just momentary? Throw and tail design look great!

BatteryJunction.com's MRV pre-order link is up! $107.95 introductory price is $102.55 after CPF coupon code cpf2006!! - Click here. (http://www.batteryjunction.com/lumapower-mrv.html)

Coupon MUST be used at time of order.

-Introductory offer goes away on 5/10 when the light begins shipping.

-All production units will be natural Type III Hard Anodizing (dark gray) like the M1 and M3.

-Tactical clicky, OP reflector and holster will come later.

-The high/low is controlled by an internal switch on the pill - you turn the pill section to adjust output - just like an M3 for those familiar with that switching system.

*dribble*

What kind of runtime are we looking at on high? 60-90 minutes with a decent 18650?
How about output on low? in lumens? From the lux chart it looks like about 90-100...?
I assume the "tactical switch" is like the one on the M1?

If it works with 2xRCR123A, that means it works with 2x18650... I hope the body is compatible with the DX1 so we can swap for more runtime. Or heck even better, just release a new DX1 with this emitter/engine/bigger reflector...

MattK
04-23-2007, 05:49 PM
I'd guesstimate over 2 hours on high with an 18650 - perhaps as much as 3hrs.

Low is driven at 400ma so I'd estimate ~80L at the emitter.

The tactical click, which will be an accessory later, will be a true forward tactical - halfpress for momentary, full click for constant. The included switches are a momentary-on when pressed and constant-on when turned and a single stage reverse clicky.

Any chance of a lower low? like 50-100 ma? Thanks foir the special price, will order one as soon as I have some cash around 5/1

MattK
04-23-2007, 08:12 PM
Alex - No, but I'll try and take some later this week. They're P4's, not sure what color bin. No cross compatability I'm aware of except perhaps the switch internals - but frankly I haven't taken the switch apart yet. No lower low nor would I expect one on this light - I'd say low is in the 80-90L range and high is 210 according to Ricky/spec.

Daekar, dig-it and everyone else who has already ordered - thanks for your support. I cannot wait to see your posts when you start getting your lights. :)

@ Lumapower:
You should contact Quickbeam to see if he would be willing to review your new light. Since you're selling this as a thrower, Quickbeam's consistent lux chart would do more to demonstrate MRV's "punch" against other lights than any other reviewer. :)

AlexGT
04-23-2007, 11:57 PM
I agree, Quickbeam should review it as he did the M1 that got 5 stars, I think he would be interested.

Is this going to be regulated? I got the impression from other Lumapower products that the discharge curve is less than flat.

So, according to LumaPower's first post spec sheet, it seems to be brightest on "regular" CR123's, correct"? But, for longest runtime 18650's.

That's great, as I really don't want to invest in another charger and more rechargeable batteries, I have lots of CR123's. Corrrect me if I'm wrong Ricky, MattK, etc.

MattK
04-24-2007, 09:37 AM
You're right - like the M1 it will be brightest on CR123A's but with longer run time on a single 18650.

In the first post it says the Battery Sources acceptable include 2xRCR123As

If this is correct why aren't Lux Readings for this option reflected in the chart?

Can the buck circuit handle 8.4v, or is it a buck/boost?

That's exactly my question too. What about for the M1 too? Is 2xCR123A's OK?

I doubt it - the HA III is consistent with the 'mission' of the product. Ultimately if there was enough demand of course LP would make it but I would not count on it.

How does this new MRV compare to the occasionally-mentioned DX1-RV or DX2-RV? Will the MRV be offered later with the forward clickie included?

MattK
04-25-2007, 07:13 AM
lasercrazy - The reflector is too big for it to be a pocket clipable light.

orbital - Yes. It's absurdly bright. The throw is just unreal.

TigerhawkT3 - Possibly - it will definitely be an accessory and should be available in less than 60 days. A holster and OP reflector are also in devlopment as accessories.

Can someone with an engineering sample take a picture of it next to a Mag 2C light, or a Surefire U2? I want to see how big this thing really is.

According to the specs, it's 6.3 inch long and has a bezel diameter of 1.77 inches. That's a bit larger than a Surefire U2, which is 6.13 inch and 1.47 inch.
