PREFACE: Please reply with ONLY your PERSONAL, FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCES with Botach here. NO HEARSAY, NO SECOND- OR THIRD-HAND information.

Okay, we all know Botach is everyone's favorite "whipping vendor" here.

My personal experience has been as follows:

Ordering via ONLINE is more hit than miss, but annoyingly oftentimes (about 25-30% of the time) items that are backordered will be missing from the order (with no indication of "backorder status" or "estimated delivery"--very annoying). I have never been charged for items not shipped however.

Ordering via TELEPHONE, speaking with a live agent and getting their name has been 100% for me. All orders have shipped in a timely fashion, and arrived rather quickly (probably because of SF's close proximity to LA).

So my overall assessment is: ONLINE is reserved for their "Special Offers" (when I'm 95% certain they have it in stock), and the rest of the time is TELEPHONE-ONLY orders.

Okay, let's hear your FIRST-HAND experiences.

I have had some orders screwed up, but they have always made it right. I use them without hesitation but I do call to see if items are in stock.

PS I have ordered a lot of stuff from them. This was not just a one time deal.

I've probably placed 5 or 6 orders from Botach with shipment to downtown LA and never had a problem.

Thanks.

Ordered about ten times. One minor problem, quickly addressed. They seem to ship reasonably quickly as well. I'd recommend them.

About 8 orders -- all on-line.

One was a complete disaster (the details are in another thread).

One took forever because the item was new on the market and they didn't actually have any in stock yet.
They kept pushing back the delivery date and I eventually cancelled the order.

Another order was delayed for maybe 4 days while they e-mailed me to ask about 1 backordered item. I cancelled the backordered item and the rest was shipped without incident.

The others were all trouble-free.

I have ordered many times, only on-line, and have had two minor problems. First was a back-order on the third of three identical items. I called and canceled the third item, the other two were shipped immediately. Second was Scorpion that was shipped without batteries. I called and they shipped two bateries immediatly. I can't complain as all other orders arrived as ordered.

I ordered from them twice, online; they shipped the wrong items one time, and when I called them, they sent out a call tag to return the wrong items, and three weeks later, I got the replacement items to complete the order. The CMG mini task lights were rather used looking, with scuff marks on them and variations between batteries found on the multiple units ordered. I don't think CMG would have shipped them that way, these might have been returns- The Infinities in the same order looked okay though- luck of the draw, maybe.
Second order went without a hitch, for 123 batteries and some other miscellaneous stuff.

Have used Botach several times with no major complaints.

Just recently ordered g2, lithiums batteries, holster, and spare P61 lamp assembly.
Got order promptly with no problems.

Worst experience was a 6 week delayed order a few months ago because some items were out of stock.

I will continue to deal with them because of the enormous savings but I'm willing to be patient if some items are out of stock.

I've dealt with Botach 3 times online with no problems. I prefer to check inventory via telephone prior to ordering.

I found them before I found CPF and ordered a ASP Tac/Traid light. Delivery was slow but I got the order and the light was perfect. I went back and ordered a holster for the light and waited only a few days and it arrived. I was suprised the package came so fast. It is just too bad the hoslter is not as comfortable to wear/use as I had hoped. The seller was ok to deal with, no big deal.

Seems like overall Botach's rep is improving in recent months. I have ordered from them twice. The first time, more then a year ago, they offered a deal on lithium AA's. I ordered from their web page and a day or two later got an email saying the item was backordered, please contact them. When I did, they said the expected delivery was three weeks, so I cancelled the order, no problems, no charge. The second time was recently when I took advantage of a CR123 deal and the order and shipping was prompt although I was a bit dismayed to see all 20 batteries packed loosely in one bag. I'll give them another shot when an appropriate deal comes along.

HI i am still waiting for my order. It's been nearly a month. I got part of my order and 3 items missing and 2 that I didn't order. A canvas holster for the g2 and extre P60 lamp assembly.
When I called cause the order was placed thru the internet we worked it out by canceling 2 items that were out of stock and they are sending me the P61 I did order and I bought the 2 extra items they sent. What happened was they sent me someone else's order. They did bill me for everything I ordered on my credit card so they are giving me a credit back to my card. Still waiting for the lamp assembly it has been 4 days but I do live in North Carolina. Because of this forum i knew i might have problems so it was easier to go with the flow. images/icons/cool.gif

[Moderator: Post edited in accordance with CNJ Rule #4. Please read the CNJ Rules to avoid further infractions.].

I ordered from them online several years ago and after waiting two weeks for my order I called them to find out what had happened. They advised me that it was on back order and didn't feel the need to tell me of such! [Moderator: Sentence Deleted] I am a A.R.M.S product dealer and have heard from the horses mouth that they don't sell their products to them. Just my .02...

I am missing the point for you editing my post. You asked for PERSONAL experiences with them and I gave it to you. The owner of ARMS pulled his products from "BoCrap" because they were misrepresenting his company. I didn't read that on some message board, but directly from the owner! Message boards are about FREE SPEECH, censoring someones honest opinion doesn't do help anyone...

C4igrant:

Your relayed experience was retained and not edited.

Your deleted accusation (contained in a single sentence) was tantamount to an accusation of fraud in violation of CNJ Rule #4.

Your accusation was not based on any conclusive legal facts nor personal experiences with said accused product. By your own admission, your accusation was based on a "conversation" with the ARMS owner which is tantamount to hearsay (and not first-hand experience with the accused), and your concluded accusation from the conversation is at best conjecture. Being an ARMS dealer only reinforces your potential bias.

If you receive a successful legal judgment (from a Court of Law) in support your aforementioned deleted accusation, please feel free then to post said judgment (in full along with your personal contact information) here with our blessings. Otherwise, as stated in the rules, save your unproved accusations and efforts for a Court of Law.

The CNJ Forum does not guarantee free speech, there are rules and you must conform to them or you are gone.

I have made several posts on this subject in the past. And it looks will continue to do so in the future. I reserve the right to censor on CPF. And I will do so when I see fit. When I'm not here the other Administrators and Moderators act on my behalf.

I have made 3 orders with smooth and quick transactions (all sale item flashlights) and one order that took 3-4 weeks to arrive. It was for a Camelbak Transformer and was back-ordered. When I finaly got an e-mail response they said I could cancel my order but I instead waited and it arrived 4 days later. I would call prior to ordering on-line for any non-sale item. Overall I am very pleased with Botach. All my orders with them have been in the last 3 months. I have praised them a few months back and got beat up on pretty hard. Sounds like things are much better than they used to be.

I am sorry is this a LAW discussion forum?? Are you folks afraid of being sued??? Hearing the owner of ARMS say that he doesn't sell his products to BoCrap isn't hearsay! While I respect this is your guys little forum and want to keep it "clean" I see no need for such needless censorship. I spend a lot of time on many other forums and they do have problems with loud, stupid people that only know the "F" word. The thing that they do have going for them is that they don't censor what is said. IMHO this is a FLASHLIGHT forum and should be fun and funny. I have seen it many times before, to many rules/moderators = boring forum = everyone finds another forum. Have a good day! graemlins/twak.gif

Hearing the owner of ARMS say that he doesn't sell his products to BoCrap isn't hearsay!<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No one has censored your post with respect to your conversation with the ARMS owners. So much ado about nothing.

Nevertheless for the record, here is the definition of hearsay:

I have had 20+ purchases from them and other than being a little slow to ship and a few back orders everything has gone pretty smooth. I only use their on line service to order but I may call just to check stock first.

Well GunCollector I will let this issue die simply for the reason of your name. Being a huge firearms enthusiast myself, I respect anyone that thinks the same. I do appreciate the law lesson and the websters definition of "hearsay." What I find really funny is that I am the only person on this board that really has an issue with BoCrap. If you go to any of these forums: ar15, rimfirecentral, firingline and fullauto to name a few you will be the MINORITY if you like this company. I look forward to many more interesting discussions...

Have had 10+ orders with them. Got a free Impact Kerambit one time (thanks! images/icons/wink.gif ), one order was delayed due to an item not being in stock. I ordered a CMG Ultra from them that didn't have a lanyard or clip.

Each time they have made things right and apologized for screwups.

They give discounts if you work for the government and this is why I use them - they usually have the best prices with this in mind.

I usually order via phone as well - you get instant feedback if an item isn't in stock. Interestingly, I ordered from them online a couple weeks ago and the next day I received an e-mail stating that one of my items was not in stock and they would like to know if I wanted to wait for the item or just drop it and have the remainder of the items processed.

I found that in every instance a call to them took care of the situation.

I wonder... they list the owner's contact info on their page... has anyone with legit problems attempted to contact him?

This saturday I placed an order for a number of items. 2 Tec-40's, KL3, F70 beamshaper, SC1, and Scorpion with clip and batteries. On sunday I went to their website to check the order and realized I had no order number. I didn't know if the order went thru and I missed the number or if there was a problem and it didn't finalize since I clicked on the enticing "save $20 on your order" button and got wisked away to a sales pitch for a buyer protection plan.

I emailed them on sunday, monday, and twice on tuesday (cc-ing the owner on the second one), and left 2 messages on their voicemail on monday, asking if they got my order or if I should redo it and, if so, what the order number was. No response at all. Then I called again today and finally got a real person. He told me they got my order and the KL3 was on backorder for who knows how long so I cancelled that item. Then I got an email 5 minutes later saying my order was missing the scorpion and beamshaper, and that the scorpion was expected next week....please advise. I emailed back asking about the date for the beamshaper and what about the KL3 not mentioned in the email, again cc-ing the owner. No reply so far. I called again and spoke to a different person (got a name this time) who said the scorpion and beamshaper will be in this week and my order will ship this week, contrary to their email.

Although the people on the phone were very polite and tried to be helpful, they didn't seem to agree on or know what the status of things were.

Overall, this was an aggravating, PITA experience. No initial confirmation of order email as is customary. No return of emails until I cc-ed the owner. No return of phone calls. No way to check things on their website. 3 long distance calls from florida to california. Conflicting info from different employees. graemlins/icon13.gif

The prices were excellent so if the stuff comes when promised now I will be satisfied, but I will always call first from now on, if I use them again. images/icons/confused.gif

Edit: supplemental - I recieved a message after the above from a girl who was calling to discuss my order. I called her back and she said she read my email but couldn't understand why she couldn't find the KL3 (she didn't know what is was) on my original order, and therefore, didn't know what I was asking about in the email. I explained it was deleted because of backorder when I called before and she probably wasn't looking at the original order. So....another wasted LD call to california. My phone bill is going to offset my savings if this keeps up. graemlins/icon13.gif

Edit: supplemental, added 12-06-02 - got an email today saying they shipped my order but that the F70 beamshaper and the SC1 spares carrier were on backorder and didn't ship. It would have been nice if they'd let me know, I would have waited. They also calculated the shipping wrong compared to their website, and overcharged me. So...in the end...I only got 3 of my 6 original items and the shipping only dropped from 11.50 to 9.83. Spread over 3 items, even on sale, with the cost of all the phone calls and shipping, I ended up losing compared to the alternative sources. The F70 beamshaper was the item I most wanted, and didn't get. I don't think I'll be using them again at all, this was too aggravating and I wasted too much time trying to save a couple of bucks. It's now a matter of principle for me, not cost. graemlins/icon13.gif

Edit: added 12/9/02...got an email today in response to my email complaint about the above. They said they would ship the rest out with no shipping charge when it came in (this week). I told them I already ordered a beamshaper (from LPS) and they could send out the SC1 (it better be the new "relaxed" version) and a black G2 @29.95 if they would. graemlins/icon14.gif

Edit: supplemental...got my order...they left out the scorpion pocket clip but still charged me for it. After several emails that went unanswered I finally got an email telling me to call Jasmine. When I called her, she was of course not there and I got a recording. I left a message. I sent them off another email, and blasted them for their absurdly poor customer service. I will definitely NEVER give them my business again nor will I ever recommend them regardless of their prices. The aggravation factor far outweighs the good prices. graemlins/icon13.gif

Edit: 12/19/02 I got a call from Mr. Botach himself last night asking what the problem was. I asked if he read my 10 or 11 emails or listened to any of my messages. He said he only received 2 emails, dated 12/9 or something and thats it. I can only assume that either he's lying or his people are erasing his emails to cover their a$$. I cc'ed him on most of the emails and some were sent only to him. Anyway they offered to send the missing parts of my order without shipping charges. I told him I already got the other stuff from somewhere else, and to send to missing scorpion clip they charged me for and that I'd take a black G2 at 29.99 without shipping charges if their offer still stands. He said fine, no problem. This morning I get an email stating a OD green G2 was shipped to me, with $8.26 shipping charges. I emailed them a complaint, cc'ing the owner in triplicate. This place is unbelievable. graemlins/icon13.gif

Even on the telephone, and talking to the owner himself, who was trying to resolve a problem situation, they still totally screw up the order. I'll bet the scorpion clip isn't even in there.

Edit: 12/19 just got a phone call from the same guy who called me last night. I don't think he's the owner. He swears I asked for a green G2, not black (it's in writing and he quoted the email asking for the black one over the phone last night)....unbelievable!!! I'll keep the green one. He also says now the scorpion clip is on backorder for 1 or 2 weeks and he'll ship it out when it comes in. He said I won't be charged for shipping on the G2. We'll see what happens. graemlins/icon13.gif

Edit: 12/24 got an email today apologizing for taking so long to answer my email from a week ago. They told me to call the customer service manager, Mr. Nastasi, to resolve my problem...lol...I talked to him last week (see above) about this already...I guess they don't talk to each other there.

Edit: 12/30 got an email today apologizing for the delay in responding, same as above, only it was from Mr. Naftali explaing there would be no shipping charges on my OD green G2.

I recieved a black G2 in the mail today..lol..after all that hulabaloo about them saying I ordered OD green when I know I ordered black. I had just convinced myself that the OD green would be better anyway, and I would take it even though I didn't order it.

They still haven't shipped the scorpion clip that I paid for weeks ago.

I actually went to their "store" last year. The outside said Pawn Shop and I had to climb over stuff to get in. Once in I was told that only police officers could shop inside but I told them that I drove 25 miles and they took my order and gave me the merchandise. It was weird inside with lots of workers pulling orders and no place for the public to even stand.

Two weeks ago I ordered their G2 special via the internet and in several days got the package with the wrong color (yellow instead of OD green). When I called them they said UPS would pick it up but I said not to bother and would keep the yellow if they would ship the green freight free. They agreed.

Days later, I tracked the UPS package and it showed an "exception" because the address on the package was wrong. I had the package made "will call" and picked it up at UPS. Botach transposed my mailing address and sent it to an address that didn't exist.

Good prices but incredibly bad service. Follow the transaction verrrry closely.

I've placed two orders with them - one this spring for two Photon 3s, which went without a hitch, and one placed 11/24 for a Streamlight 4AA LED and Scorpion with batteries, a Princeton Tec Aurora, another Photon 3, and a Princeton Tec Eclipse. The order shows as on hold; I've used their feedback form twice (latest today) to ask why, but have not yet received a response. I suspect they don't have the Eclipses yet, but it would be nice to know and have the option to cancel that so I could get the rest of my order.

Update 12/13: I sent an email to their main email contact site complaining about my order and got a response in a couple of hours. They claimed they had sent an email 11/24 with status. I suppose it's possible the email did get lost, although I've never seen that happen before. And they did not explain the lack of response to the two times I used their response form.

So, I guess the moral is don't use their form, use their main email.

(To those people saying call in orders, their web site says they want phones just for government/LEO, and I am neither, and I try to be polite and do what merchants ask).

Greymage what is the PT Eclipse? Ok I went and Googled it and the first non-sponsored hit was Botach images/icons/smile.gif . Sort of like a Photon III? Will be interested in seeing a comparison.
They have a great special on the Aurora $19.95 is a good price but they also throw in a Pulsar.
Good thing I have an Aurora or I might be tempted images/icons/grin.gif

I have found the best way to deal with them is to call to check inventory if the item is important to
you, then hang up FAST and place the order on line. I got some link from them and I get 5% credit towards my next order if I place it on line. I just got a few
Aurora LED headlamps for $20 each and there great!
It took 7 days for it to get to NY but other than that it was another smooth purchase.

My one order from them went similar to other reports. Got the stuff, but it took more hand-holding than should have.

1. Ordered via web. Web indicated order was placed and sent an order number that I was supposed to be able to track, but couldn't. graemlins/icon13.gif

2. After two weeks of hearing nothing and not being able to track order, called customer service number and left message. Missed their three call backs the next day, but at least they tried. graemlins/icon14.gif

3. Called back the next day and talked to a nice enough gal who told me the order was on hold because one item was backordered. I cancelled the one item because there was no estimated shipping date and they said the remaining items would go out that afternoon, which they did. graemlins/icon14.gif

The thing that bothered me here is that I got the feeling that the order wouldn't have ever moved if I hadn't called to get the status. graemlins/icon13.gif

However, to their credit, my card wasn't charged either, which some other companies are notorious for.

4. Received the order in a few days, reasonable for ground shipping, and found everything was there graemlins/icon14.gif , but I wasn't given government pricing even though the invoice was marked as "gov't pricing eligible". graemlins/icon13.gif

5. Called up and was immediately given credit based on gov't pricing by a nice enough sounding fellow; credit was applied to my credit card within a couple of days. graemlins/icon14.gif

It seems the advice of calling up and placing order online to ensure stock on hand is the way to go.

Each individual will have to decide if rock bottom pricing is worth the rock bottom customer service. The folks I spoke with were pleasant enough, but the place is obviously really disorganized.

A Definition of Insanity:
doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
-- attributed often to Benjamin Franklin

Look, with Botach, you MUST place ALL orders by telephone. Furthermore, get the rep's name and check that the item is in stock.

For any who have previously read this thread, and continue to order online with poor results, please see "A Definition of Insanity" above.

Edited 12/04 message with current status.

If I were a government or LEO I'd order by phone, but their web site says not to. I wouldn't have ordered from BT at all after seeing the recent complaints, except that TTS doesn't have a lot of LED items (and like a reputable dealer they make sure customers know it instead of listing items that are out of stock or don't exist) so I gave into temptation the last time.

Update on my 11/24 order:

I received email yesterday (12/17) asking me to call one of their reps and called and left voicemail. Today I received a call back and cancelled the out of stock items, added a couple (they have lithium AA four packs for 7.95), and was told the order will shop today.

The salespeople seem to have inventory numbers, so my guess is they just haven't put an effort into internet sales.

I ordered (and received ; ) a G2, P61 and 20 Toshiba CR123as. $80.89 shipped for all. Came a day early.

I called them before I ordered and told them a little of what I'd read on this fourum. I said I wanted to get both side of the story . The gentleman was very gracious. He said they always try to make things right if there's a mistake.

I had no problems (other than being a little nervous until it arrived).

I've added much to my original post. What a nightmare they are.

They are always very polite on the phone. They just can't seem to get things right. They say one thing on the phone, their emails say another thing, their website says a third thing, and none of them turn out to be accurate. After 11 emails and 6 phone calls my situation is still not resolved and is just getting worse. And somehow 9 of my 11 emails just seem to have vanished into thin air according to the owner who called me last night. Funny, since they actually answered 2 of the missing emails he claims they never got.

Here's my latest.
Ordered on 11/22 and for the first time tried using PayPal with them (my masochistic tendancies got the better of me).
Finally an E-mail response on 12/12 asking me to call them (not toll-free of course).
Was told that the KLxs were unavailable and that all backorders were being canceled for the holidays.
They promised to ship the remainder that day.
When I asked about a refund for the KLxs I was told that because I'd used PayPal -- I would have to request my refund through PayPal.
So I did. I requested my refund through PayPal.
Skip ahead to 12/18 when I've still received nothing.
Another phone call to the same person at Botach who tells me that since I asked for a refund through PayPal they had not shipped anything and were cancelling my order.
I could reorder if I like but now there are even more items out of stock and one of them is no longer even being offered.
So now it's 12/19 and I have no items and according to PayPal -- Botach still has my money.

I placed a departmental order with them in 1999 that was delayed due to backorder status from Blackhawk Industries. Botach's staff was friendly and called to explain the delay. I got the impression that they were a small shop and somewhat new to the Web.

I've since placed twenty or so orders online and have had no real problems. I've not used their support so I can't comment on that.

I guess I didn,t learn the first time! The first time I ordered some Items from them and it took 7 weeks to get it and was the wrong size.

They did make it good but the overall experance was Bad.
So on 10-11-06 i made another order of 5 differant items and on 12-10-06 i received 2 of them with the promace of the $99.85 Boots to be shipped whitin 4-7 days! They charged my credit card for the$139.00 but still no boots.

It is now 12-21-06 and they have $99.85 of my money and won,t return my E-Mails or return my phone calls.
I sure wish the owner would call me!!

International customers are required to make order enquiries via email. Botach are then supposed to respond with quotes for shipping etc.

I placed an emailed order enquiry six months ago. I have not received a reply from them!? :scowl:

Yeah, I wonder what happened to Guncollector? He's probably on his front porch with a 12 gauge in his lap yelling at teenagers to stay off his lawn!

I only recognize a few screens names. Maybe the majority of CPFers move on to other things after 5 years, or perhaps the less frugal end their flashlight collecting days with a foreclosure and the wife taking the kids.

I can just imagine an old CPFer in a tattered coat standing along a freeway onramp. He would be the only homeless guy working the ramp after dark as he lights up his cardboard sign with an old mini-mag powered by an endless supply of Costco batteries he got from the divorce settlement.

I've had three online experiences with them and both went flawlessly. Merchandise was good, shipped in a timely fashion. But from now on, I will only speak to a live agent due to overwhelming feedback about online vs. live person experiences.

I have placed 3 orders with them. All were placed online.

The first was for 20 Sanyo CR123a's. I had them in my hands in about 5 days.

The second was for 20 Energizer CR123a's. It took them about 5 days to actually ship, which wasn't too bad since I ordered it friday evening. I think from time of order until I received the package was 9 days. I received 20 Rayovac cells rather than the Energizers, which isn't a bad thing since they perform very very well.

The third order I placed at about 4:30 PM on Saturday the 23rd. To my surprise I got a ship notification a few hours later. They were actually working on the weekend before Christmas?!

I haven't received it yet, but scheduled delivery is only 2 days away.

I really have no complaints about Botac, and their prices on CR123a's are nearly impossible to beat.

Well my 3rd order arrived two days after I posted that. I received Energizer cells instead of the Rayovacs, but I'm not upset about that.

What happened to the other one?

IMHO, this is not a valid justification and I hope this only happens with batteries. I wouldn't want to order something black and then have it come in white. Even then, they should at least clarify it first with the customer. What if they decided to send you Golstons instead? I doubt you or anybody else for that matter would be ok with that. They probably assume all CR123's are the same regardless of the brand.
