Shoot! I still need to buy my E2!
I still am amazed by the beam you're getting from one LED.
Any chance you'd consider doing the same for a 9Z? Sure would make my $18 investment in batteries last longer!

I'd only be able to do an LED conversion on a light I already own since there is much testing of the lamp to see what works. I'll probably buy another sure-fire sometime and make an LED lamp for it. Not sure which one yet.

Hmm... so if I shipped you my 9Z, would you be interested in playing? It's a P90 lamp module, so it's different from the P60s for the 2-cell lights.
If you were interested, how long might you need the light (weeks/months?), and how much would you charge for the R&D effort?

Kris,
Why don't you just send me a dead lamp for the 9Z. I'll take a look at it. If it looks like something I can do, we can talk about a price that we both like.

Brad you should get one of the other Surefire 2 123 lights. They all use either a P60 or a P61 lamp. I think there would be a big market since so many lights use that lamp module. The only problem is it has a reflector/lamp setup. The reflector is attached to the lamp. Maybe you could figure something out that would fit though.

Which light do you recommend? The 6P looks nice. I was thinking about that one anyway.
What's the biggest selling light. The 6P or is it something else?

I would guess the 6P is the most common light. I like the D2 because of the clip, but if you don't need a clip I would go with the 6P. Unless you like rubberized or Teflon, then I would recommend the G2. I think the G2 might be the cheapest of them all and the Teflon helps make the light extremely durable. Again they all use the same lamp module, the P60. The P60 and P90 are the same size, just the P90 is for 3 cell lights and the P60 is for 2 cell lights. So I would imagine if you figure out the P60 it would just be a matter of changing the resistor for the higher voltage.

Just saw this! Exciting, this definitely increases the versatility of the E2. Good job Brad.

When my P90 eventually burns out, I'll do that, thanks. Since I just got the light, I don't expect this to happen any time soon.

Kris,
How is that 9Z? Pretty bright? Expensive? How do you like it so far?

Quite bright, actually. In some cases, it's actually too much light. ( images/icons/shocked.gif There I go again, blaspheming! images/icons/blush.gif images/icons/smile.gif ) It's great for casting a bright, concentrated beam for relatively huge distances, but I've been trying to use it where a penlight might be more appropriate-- indoors, or hunting for something I dropped on the floor of my truck, or that kind of thing. Believe me, even against a dark background like my truck carpet, that spot of light is WAY bright at a distance of 3 feet (~1m) or so.
The light itself wasn't too horribly expensive, because I bought it at a "returned item" sale at a click-and-mortar retailer. I ended up getting it for about half of retail, I think. The batteries, on the other hand, would eat me alive if I used this as much as I wanted to. It eats CR123s, three at a time, and the best price I've been able to find has been about $6.25 each. At $19 per feeding (which only lasts for an hour of runtime), I've placed this light in my briefcase for use in emergencies. Having lithium batteries in there makes that especially useful.
Now, when you consider that I carry a SureFire 8X in my jacket and a Streamlight SL-20X in my truck, in addition to the white Infinity Task Light in my left pants pocket, the green Photon II in my right pants pocket, and the blue ASP Sapphire on my beltloop, you really have to wonder what kind of emergency might pop up that would require the 9Z, don't you? images/icons/smile.gif I think I got the flashlight bug bad. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Kris,
I found some Sanyo 123 batteries on e-bay. I posted the link in Dealer's Corner.
At $1.80 each, I think I'll buy some. I've never tried the Sanyo brand but for that price I think I'll take the chance.
