An Intro...Hi from AURORALITES.com

I think it's only polite, if I'm going to participate here, to formerly intro myself.

I'm the owner of AURORALITES.com. I started about 7 years ago using mostly EL lamps to increase night safety for dogs, people, kids, things. I chose dog collars first because I knew the R&D/Engineering that was needed to make ANYTHING electronic work on a professional working dog for any length of time would work on anything else. Also I like dogs more than most people and believe most SAR dogs know what they are doing and that dedication deserved the best I could come up with. The dog collars have been seen from 12,000 ft away if that gives any indication of their use and the added safety factor for a working dog.

We make all the EL products listed and shown on our web pages here (just west of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) which means our products are NOT imported crap made by slave labour from you-know-where. Take a look at our Testimonials and Users list and you'll realize that. Most of these people love their dogs more than anything else in the world. It's taken a while to gain their trust and confidence but the testimonials speak for themselves.

I have a bunch of SAR / LE / EMS / outdoor type products on my web pages and as a distributor I have tried to pick the best products - with consideration for the somewhat limited $'s available for many of these volunteer SAR people.

Auroralites Safety Systems Inc. is increasing its product line all the time and I'm open to new ideas. If it appears that there's a market, we'll give it a try. I also love to fiddle around and try new "stuff" so if any of you want to try something and you pique my curiosity and creative instincts let me know and as long as the cost of the parts are covered I'll give it a shot.

I look forward to dropping by often and comparing news and notes on our favorite subject - bright stuff. Please drop by my web site and have a look too.

Be safe.

Dave

Dave, great to see you start this. I am looking forward to your comments in other threads about batteries and handmade or modified lights -- not much has been said here about using electroluminescent material.

It sounds like you have focused on reliability and use in rough situations -- dark or smoky or broken field -- where it helps to have the dog lit up and visible.

I bet your lights would also see good service on remote controlled or autonomous robots. Or as flat panel lights inside dark places (glove compartments? Trunk or addon carrier lids?)

Or as flexible sheets, can you roll up one of your lights and squirt it through say a 2" pipe and have it unfold to provide a square foot or two of emergency light? (Thinking of the recent mine story where men were trapped underground).

Hmmmm .... kite flying at night?

No need to respond to this here but I hope you poke around and add your perspective on many threads.

Dave,

I very much understand your reasons why you specificly DO NOT include reflective tape on your collars (when a LEO turns off the light, there is a good reason why he wants it off, and does not want to be seen, even if a light shines on him or his dog).

Have you ever thought about doing a consumer version that DID include reflective tape or reflective material?

I am going to get one of your collars, regardless, but I just thought I'd ask. For my needs, I ALWAYS want my dog to be seen, and a reflective collars is just one more way for the dog to be seen, and the brighter the light, the brigher the reflection.

Thanks.
